I'm cool with uniques favoring certain brands and ice caves giving ice gear, but I don't believe balance and/or flavor are enough to justify the labyrinth of special cases outlined in minmay's post.

Why can't all weapons roll all egos?

I'd put this in GDD but whatever

Would it be so bad if maces could generate with vamp or double swords could show up with protection? Why don't quick blades get anything at all? (special cases/vaults/uniques/randarts aside)

is this just a legacy thing

Personal, unqualified opinion based solely on extensive extended play:

Hells good, Pan bad*.

*and worse with the new demonspawn dudes - now I have to actually pay attention while drudging through 40+ panfloors. Interesting dudes are cool and all but in this case they only make Pan take longer.

My particular favorites are Dr, VS, Ds, Mu

I really like VS because full slots, mostly neutral apts, and rapid healing means less 5ing/food clock garbage.

I would play Ds even more but its negative XP apt is stupid. Why hamstring the coolest part about the race - leveling up for mutations?

Sar: you're talking about power. But if you stripped away the card stuff from Nemelex, he's basically a god that gives random destruction, summon, or escape effects. This is how I feel. Experience, Trowel, and Helix were Nem's most interesting effects. Incentive enough for me to tolerate the hoover...

AFAIK Branding still gives vorp by default, so in order to get flame/freeze brands on your vanilla claymore you have to find at least 2. Preferably a few more as backup just in case you roll venom.

I've long been a proponent of moving extended runes out of pan/hells and into branches that aren't full of demons and undead. For where you're at you've got pretty good defenses, so I would lay off the armour/dodge/stealth training for now in lieu of combat. So get a little bit of fighting and a lot of long blades. I listed it as a 'pro', but having no food clock is more of a convenience than a strength. And being locked out of potion use is a heavy price to pay for it. They really don't need to be punished further.

OgWr is the best Chei background. 15 strength makes a significant difference when using a GSC. The extra int and dex shore up some of Og's weaknesses. Portal projectile large rocks. Randblink when you need some space and can't walk away. etc etc

haste is not enough of a problem to be worth the hassle of rebalancing the game in its absence.

there are many 'no-brainer' spells in the game: swiftness, rmsl, regen, blink... if you find them there is no reason outside of god conduct not to learn them.

Zigs are not guaranteed in dungeon. Keep running pan floors and you'll find one eventually. Zigs do not generate in hells and I'm 99% sure they don't generate in Abyss.
