Not shure about which is the hardest roguelike in the true sense. Hardest 'traditional' CRPG should be Wizardry IV - Return of Werdna. It actual had some roguelike elements. If the char get selected in the table there should be a sentence in the death statistics about ghost status:

Bonus means positiv addition of quantities (points, money etc.) Malus is the exact reverse of bonus.
