Chei abilities besides Slouch

So I recently won a game as a Naga of Chei (and found it super fun). One thing I noticed it that during the entire game I NEVER used anything besides Slouch. Sure there are some tricky defensive abilities that you can use with Chei but why would I bother with them? Just use Slouch and kill everythin...

Re: Clearing Slimes - why?

While I am certainly NOT a great player, I love slime. It is the only part of extended that I actually find enjoyable. (I suppose it is technically debatable if slime is part of extended). It is somewhat challenging and the tactics needed are a bit different from the rest of the game.

Re: Proposal: Xom and ?useless

I like this idea in theory but it seems to have a big problem with it. Cursed scrolls are the major aspect of Ash so it is not difficult at all to communicate to the player about it. However if scrolls of uselessness are valuable to Xom, how would it be communicated? It seems like it is something th...

Re: thought regarding the rage mutation:

I think that the whole point of the mutation is that it goes off at inconvenient times. However, as has been stated in other threads, there is a huge abundance of food in the game. So it is mostly an annoyance that it sometimes happens at the end of combat. I think that what should really happen is ...

OpTm vs. Hydra

I am stubbornly trying to win with a OpTm even though I have splatted about a hundred of them. Anyway, I have gotten good enough to get to the Lair on a semi regular basis. To my surprise, though, I am still struggling. How in the world am I to deal with hydras? Spiderform and iceform are too squish...

Re: Rune lock

For what it matters, I think people are getting overly worked up about this decision. I am a mediocre player and I tried a runelock game. I am playing a DeFe and realize that I have never gotten a magic character even to the end of the Lair before this game. In this game, I only had one scary situat...

Re: Quick Armor Question

This is slightly off topic but why is GDA bad? It has great resistances. Compared to plate, it has +2 AC and -3 EV. So it is slightly worse there but I would think the resistances would make the difference. I guess it is likely that I have no idea how EV works...

Re: Remove burdened and item weight

I think that this is an issue that is relevant primarily for new players. I remember when I was a really bad player (not that I am good now) and I would pick up everything imaginable because I had no idea what might be useful later on in the game. Eventually I figured out what items will be useful a...

Re: Insectoids species proposal

I am not good enough of a player to comment on the balance of these ideas. However, I can say that in my opinion, it is a brilliant idea to make a race where you effectively have to do a speed run. This is a very different play-style that I would ever do normally because it is not optimal. So it wou...

Minotaur's horns

So I am trying (unsuccessfully as always) to beat the game with the easiest combo in the game (MiBe). I am getting relatively decent with it but I have a question. I know that Minotaurs get an special attack with their horns. Does training Unarmed Combat help this? Is there ever reason to train it, ...

I have been playing tons of crawl games and I had NO idea that monsters can actually polymorph you! This is totally hilarious! This must be an insanely rare thing, however, unless I have just been getting unlucky (or is it lucky?)

Re: Food types in general

The question is how eating would actually work in this case. If a meat ration is 5 food then do you have to manually tell the game to eat five times in order to get full? I already hate it when I have to eat grapes because I have tell the game to eat each individual grape and that is extremely tedio...

While this is certainly possible to do I am not sure what this would actually add to the game except to make use of poison a little less desirable and more annoying.

Basic Light Armour Question

I have a simple easy question that I have not been able to figure out on the Wiki. If I am have a melee/magic hybrid character that is going to use medium armour (such as mottled dragon armour) do I just train dodging or do I train a bit of armour too? Also when training dodging or armour is there a...

Re: New Poison Spell Suggestions

Here is an idea that I have have not really thought through the ramifications but what about a spell that causes you to regen if you are poisoned? It would give you a reason to save potions of poison for life gain. This would also cause you to spam poison cloud for health which may or may not be a b...

Webtiles no longer works

I have an odd problem. I was playing a game on WebTiles and everything was going great. However I noticed that the game was starting to lag quite a bit. So I just gave up for the day and shut down my web browser. However ever since then I am unable to play WebTiles with the 0.10 version. I can play ...

Re: Banners as a permafeature? For offline play as well?

Tome 4 has something kind of like this and I absolutely love it. I am not a very good player and so it is very unlikely that I will be able to play good enough to actually win. However if there was some sort of "banner" that functioned as lower hanging fruit then it would serve as a goal t...

High End Spells

In the beginning of the game there are many different spells that characters can learn. The end game for spell users seems to be very lacking however. Depending on what skill is the highest you get one spell to use (fire storm, ice storm, etc). The addition of tornado is good but still there is need...

Re: Vault suggestion thread

My favorite vault would probably be the gnoll fortress (I assume that is considered a vault right?) Many of the vaults in the game are primarily aesthetic and do not offer much difference in how the game is played. The gnoll fortress is different in that it presents a significant challenge to overco...
