Always potions at first. Necklaces later, because amulets of faith suck when you are already at max piety and need the other amulets for something. Wands of healing/teleport to see how many charges there are. Randarts and other jewelry when I have a bunch extra.

Eventually you will need to max throwing and stealth. Stabbing you can just use the book as you level the other stuff. Put maybe 20% or so in it as you work stealth. Be careful in vaults though. A lucky hit by a stone giant will ruin your day.

Usually with my trolls I try and dive swamp to look for an early dragon. Swamp dragons are great because Rpoison is super useful and frees up a ring slot. Just be careful when you throw rocks in the swamp, you don't want to have one land in deep water and lose it.

TrMo of Oka is pretty easy in early game. OgHu following any god, DSMo of Mahkleb is fun for random games, SpAs following Trog is fun. Easy early game, work towards needlestab for mid/late game, HOBe is probably one of the easiest games you can run.
