Re: Secret Doors

...what's with reviving year old threads? I noticed the report that XuaXua mentioned above, and noticed people posting things like "+1 for abolishing secret doors". I decided, rather than continue the argument in a relatively obscure issue report in Mantis, to voice my opinion where other...

Re: Secret Doors

I'm not a high-powered player with multiple victories and years of playing, but I like secret doors. Please don't remove them from the game.

How to report abuse while playing online at CDO

How should abusive in-game messages be reported? I'm having a problem with one player in particular, but don't see any way to report it.

Re: CTRL-c Clear Level Map: Confirmation?

Awesome, it works! Thanks very much. I've edited the options file before, but I didn't know that was usually called init.txt, since I've never actually played the game offline.

Re: CTRL-c Clear Level Map: Confirmation?

I still don't understand how to do this online. mageykun's directions say to edit two files, init.txt and macro.txt. Can this be accomplished at CDO? If so, how?

Re: Missile enchantment

CAO is up to 0.11-a0-1801-g3fd757a , is this in effect yet? The description of arrows still states: "All pieces of ammunition may get destroyed upon impact. Enchantment reduces the chances of such loss. It can be maximally enchanted to +9." Yes it is, and good catch. Fixed . Along the sam...

Re: Non-standard screen size on CDO

I got help on this in the IRC channel. For posterity, the critical thing to realize is that the options file has options, view_max_width and _height , which control the viewport , meaning the portion of the map you can see while playing. By default, this is 33 wide by 17 high. The terminal program u...

CTRL-c Clear Level Map: Confirmation?

I'd like to request that there be a confirmation prompt when using CTRL-c to clear the level map. It's a useful feature, but I'm doing it frequently by accident when reaching for CTRL-x, List Things in View. Perhaps it's not necessary when viewing the level map with SHIFT-X, since CTRL-x does nothin...

Phrase search?

I like the features search currently has at the site, but I'd really like the ability to put a phrase in quotation marks and see results with that explicit phrase, in that order, rather than results with all words of the phrase but not necessarily contiguous.

Re: Non-standard screen size on CDO

Was this feature removed? I used to be able to follow the above instructions and get a larger viewport, but it no longer seems to work for width (though it still seems to work for height). Even people I watch play online, people who specify a large width, are playing in only 80 columns now.

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

As a tengu, how do I stop flying? I searched, but all I could find is that the tengu ability to stop flying was added to the game a couple of versions ago. It's in the ability menu. I already lost the game, so I can't quote directly, but when I tried to look in the ability menu while flying, the ga...

Non-standard screen size on CDO

I play online at CDO. I also watch others play occasionally. I always see a few people playing with large, non-standard screen sizes like 100x30, rather than 80x24, and it looks much better. I would like to use such a size myself, but when I try to modify my online options file, the game simply star...

YASD: HOPr goes down in flames

My first decent game. I am a Messiah of the Lord Our God Beogh, a level 17 hill orc priest who has converted a number of companions and carefully raised them from wee orcs to become powerful knights and warlords. Confident in my prowess as a holy orc, I decide to take a time out from diving deeper t...

Re: Please nerf the boggart

But possibly there's still a bit of a problem if it's really unclear what boggarts are doing (especially if they go invisible immediately? also if you were a HOPr they could have spotted your orcs and gone invisible and started summoning before you even saw them, perhaps...)? Yes, that's entirely p...

Re: New Race: Golem

I like the idea of playable golems, but I must admit I don't like the idea of golems that heal themselves and cast spells. I propose that, instead of healing, a golem starts with a staggeringly large number of hitpoints, but that's all you get. A golem is basically a moving chunk of rock, right? And...

Re: Please nerf the boggart

Well that's great advice, but I shouldn't have to come to a forum to find the answer, according to the game's philosophy. I literally had to look up a bunch of monsters on the web to see what might have such an ability. For a while I assumed the level itself must be generating them.

Please nerf the boggart

I'm on my first decent game, after about 25 abortive games. I'm on DL19 and encountered my first boggart. So far this little bugger is far and away the hardest monster in the game, so much so that I thought I had encountered the game's ultimate boss. In no time flat, it had summoned enough really to...

Why does my character have hitpoints given as <current>/<maximum>, followed by <maximum> + 20% or so in parentheses?
