[YAVP] OpVM (new Ashenzari) 15-runer: check out this beast

I mean, check out this. The AC, EV, the resistences. The spell list. My first 15-runer, and towards the end (but really, a good while earlier) I literally didn't know what to do with that XP. With Ashenzari's aid, every single relevant skill was at 27! I could've memorized Tornado as well, just for ...

Re: Converting the Delver background in a new at-start optio

Oh, obviously bonuses should be scaled to level. I suspect there should still be some bonus for D:2, but it could be a small one. (Say, one or two identified bad consumables; still mildly useful in that they made emergency blind-reading/quaffing safer, but not too exciting.) Heh, I like this! Wanna...

Re: Converting the Delver background in a new at-start optio

I agree -- in fact, it may even be more fuss to explain why the first few levels are off-limits to delvers... but I won't give substantial bonuses, if any, until the 5th level or so. It needs to remain a challenge.

Re: Converting the Delver background in a new at-start optio

Yes, but at this point the option could be more fuss than it's worth. I think to retain its flavour it should start at 5 minimum -- otherwise you can just start normally and go down the first stairs... which I always do, and then do again, and always gets me killed :D

Re: Delver chat

To be honest I'm not convinced that delver is less reliably winnable than chaos knight so if we are removing backgrounds for being luck hard then we should get rid of that one first. The problem with delver is not the difficulty (you just die even more in the first few minutes), it's the utter un-i...

Re: Converting the Delver background in a new at-start optio

Personally, I'd prefer: random start, delver items YES, player choosing level (starting from 5). The delver package can be multi-tier and change with level or not (to make for an explicit challenge)

Re: Converting the Delver background in a new at-start optio

One simple option would be to start the player at the temple, without additional items. Possibly with a piety boost upon joining a god instead? That's a lot more interesting than the current delver. IMO that would be way too strong, even without the piety boost. I mean, delving for the Temple is al...

Converting the Delver background in a new at-start option

As others wrote, the problem with the Delver background is not that it's lethal or luck-based (that's part of its fun, and even if you splat many Delvers, it's just a matter of minutes to launch another). The real problem is that when you manage to get back to D:1, the remaining game just isn't very...

Re: Delver chat

The larger problem is from that point forward: the role is just *so weak* overall that the transition from stealth-and-run to being able to actually kill non-popcorn can be very difficult. Yep, this is so true. The problem is not the initial climb upwards (that's luck-based, but also fun!); it's th...

OK solved, I updated to the latest built (.26-a0-1213) and it went away. It had been quite annoying for a few days!

the targeting reticle for spells is gone?!?

Hi guys, apologies if this is not the right place to post. I'm playing trunk (0.26-a0-1181) and having great fun. It's incredible how the removal of hunger made the game so much more enjoyable. Anyway, I noticed a not-so-pleasant change, unless it's a bug: the targeting reticle for spells (ie airstr...

Re: CIP: an octo with an interesting weapon

yeah, my problem with Gozag is: I've got the most awful luck with shops and I kinda forget to use the potions. I died many times without using even the first, free petition! So, I guess this is the time to learn to actually use my tools and do Gozag, so -- hopefully -- I'll finally manage to bribe a...

CIP: an octo with an interesting weapon

Hi guys, this is weird. I was playing an OcWz and trying to delay training magical skills because I was thinking of going Sif (so I wouldn't waste the piety -- also, I find it fun to just train Fighting and go pure melee at the beginning). Then on D:4 I found my best randart ever, something quite im...

Re: CIP: a gnoll who's da beast!

In fact, I cleared Vaults:4 and strolled confidently in Crypt, where I was nearly killed right away by a Dark Knight. I never even knew about injury mirror for monsters! Usually it's no big deal, since I don't use huge weapons. This time I very nearly committed suicide with a single blow :) Anyway, ...

Re: CIP: a gnoll who's da beast!

Thank you bobby. I'm going to stick to the vamp axe for the added survivability (I never used vampiric weapons in the past and I have to say, they do are as good as they say...), although of course killing stuff quickly is good to stay alive too :D I'll experiment a bit with the rings to see if I ha...

CIP: a gnoll who's da beast!

Hi guys, this is my first CIP post. I usually play a while, go way beyond the hardest part, then do something stupid and end up dying while I weep quietly in my darkened room. Now I've got a Gnoll of Ashenzari who's really impressive (at this point I suspect they all are when they reach the mid-game...

Re: latest trunk wintiles - autoexplore never stops?

Yes, this bug is fixed in trunk but we haven't gotten windows trunk builds to work again yet. 0.22.1 has most of the fixes that trunk (0.23) currently has, and definitely has everything that that version has, so using that is probably a better bet than old windows trunk builds. Thanks a lot, I thin...

latest trunk wintiles - autoexplore never stops?

Hi guys, I installed a few days ago the latest trunk (0.22-a0-815-gb58271) and since then my autoexplore never stops, except for enemies. I'm playing windows tiles. I can happily fly by items, artifacts, stairs, the entrance to the Temple a few seconds ago... whatever. The update overwrote my init.t...

Re: does Sif consider previous spell training for piety?

Thanks, nerd. I was almost sure, but wanted confirmation. Well, going the "delayed training" route is sure risky... but Sif's gifts arrive so late that if you don't find books you're bound to have serious problems anyway (speaking as a VM right now, wizards have things going a little bette...

does Sif consider previous spell training for piety?

Hi guys, excuse me if this has been asked already, but I can't find the info. It's pretty simple: does Sif Muna consider previous training in Spellcasting/spell schools when you initially join? For piety purposes, I mean. Because if not, as I believe, one should delay training those until after she ...

Guys, excuse me if this is well-known, but: forgetting a spell burning its spellbook has been disabled? Because I really can't find that function anymore. C'mon, I don't want to burn a scroll to get rid of Corona :)

Re: OcFi with lotsa regeneration -- god & strategy?

Thanks! Kiku is a great idea, I've been toying with the idea of playing a necromancer (I tried a few, but never really explored that route) and this may be the right time. I don't really like fussing around with the animated dead, but pain, haunt and such make a pretty good arsenal to complement a m...

OcFi with lotsa regeneration -- god & strategy?

Hi guys! I'm playing a OcFi, and having a lot of fun, mainly because I found two rings of regen & a vampiric dagger. Basically, I'm diving headfirst in every bunch of orcs and gnolls, taking massive damage, then retrating a few spaces to recover while they pursue me :) I know, it's not a sound s...

CIP: lv 27 DEFE, 5 runes, what now?

Hi guys, first of all, I've never won a single game :) In my defense, I have to say I've been very, very close several times, but I always decided to do something stupid instead (like, Ziggurat raiding with poor immunities) That said, I just cleared Zot:4 with my latest DEFE. auto-inscribing objects taken from unique enemies

Hi, I've got a tiny suggestion, but (I hope) a cute one: as many players, I've been annotating the presence of unique enemies in the dungeon levels with '!'. This is now automatic in 0.10, and much appreciated. Another thing I used to do (and still do), is to inscribe the stuff I take from dead uniq...

Hi, I'm new :) Excuse me if this has been discussed before: I have this nagging sensation, since it's pretty impossible that nobody has considered this. I'd simply want an option to view the "hall of fame" (the list in the "scores" file, in the same order) from the main menu. A s...
