Malign Gateway is fantastic, even more so when you have good options for retreating. Depending a bit on chaos brand luck it has very good chances to kill a OOF one-on-one (ideally while you're safe on the other side of the map).

I think the problem is that there's a bit too much factors involved - with enchantments it's only spellpower and monster's MR, you don't need to recalculate that, with a weapons it's base, enchantment, slaying from items, might, monster's EV, possible agility... Fsim is pretty taxing on the server,...

Necromutation and deflect missiles means you mostly have to worry about dispel undead from summons. For offence, tornado should work fine, just be ready to teleport. Spells which can miss are not a good idea.

Isn't there tons of vaults like this, that can be "cheesed" in some way? Always thought it was intended behavior, rewarding player ingenuity.

If you're lucky enough to find some of the better evocables (rods, disc of storms, box of beasts, the elemental ones if you're not playing trunk) training evocation is probably a good idea. It's very xp-efficient for spriggans as well.
