I had done well early game with the SpAs, but once I got to about Lair I found that everything would wake up before I could get close enough to stab stabby. Rerolled a SpEn and he seems to be doing well so far ;)

Also, at what level does stealth become useful? I tried a SpAs and even at 12 Stealth he was getting spotted all the damn time. I spent way more time needle and dart kiting than I did stabbing.

I don't know that it matters what skill apts you are dealing with. IIRC, Ash transfers skill points. Throw 2
Dodge 2

Plus you start with a shield to get a head start on Shield skill, not to mention the damage avoidance potential from the shield.

If you aren't set on a shield that flaming exe axe is the way to go. Hydra die so easy to flaming slash.

This won't really help since you are Trog, but good info to know -> If you've found a book with animate skeleton, you can use that to generate corpses without needing to unwield a weapon.

I agree, Grimm, but in Lair its often hard to find just such a defensible position. I usually just run if I can't find a good position that leaves me exposed to more than 2 elephants at a time. They usually die easy to Tr claws though :D

Acquire a staff. You'll get a rod, and it will probably be pretty useful. Jewellery acquirement is junk even more often than armour acquirement is, and you're already getting a lot of acquirement-level weapons from Trog. +1, Trogites should acquire staffs for the rods... definitely a solid addition...

GhMo is also good if you are having to deal with ghosts before you can get Dispel Undead.

Alternatively, a TrBe can demolish the game up until Lair without much effort. You can trade 1 ghost later for several ghosts earlier.
