Re: What to acquire for Op?

I would go for books if I have Transmutations or Earth as my highest spell skill and haven't found statue form yet. Or gold if statue form is in a store.

I doubt I would train unarmed on an octopode without going for transmutations at some point, though.

As a decent but not great player (offline, winrate somewhere around 20% through greaterspecies run), I think it's felid. The entire game demanded maximal vigilance even with statue form online. Your only big remaining clump of mutators is in Pan, so with eight mut potions, it might be worth it to try to get rid of frail.

If you're finding nothing for fire, you could plausibly train up Transmutations for dragon form (which you have found) and get rF++, rC-. You also have rElec and rPois from statue and inherent rC when formless. This sets you up pretty decently except against foes/packs with mixed elemental attacks. ...

Having a background with some kind of ranged option (casters, artificer) will suffice to suffer through the early game. I consistently get slaughtered either in the rune branches or vaults, though. Courage, Eye, and some of the Purity stuff would be ok. Arcana if it doesn't touch Summons/Tmut/poison. Maybe drink (certainly safer than words, and Ru's ability does what the better potions do anyway) And I have an amulet of faith on, for lack of anything better.
