The Geneforge series is very much worth those twenty bucks. The first two games are possibly the best RPGs I've played since Planescape: Torment. The rest are weaker, though the UI improves a great deal. 5 crashes to desktop quite a bit but the others are stable.

Good luck surviving errors without blink or teleportation. If you allow some low-end religious powers, starting with Lugonu seems useful for the random blink and easy third rune (as Vault 8 will suck on any such build). Probably would also have to be a spriggan or centaur for the speed.

Note that troll fighters are an exception to the rule. In light of their atrocious dodging, armor restrictions, and preference for unarmed combat, the guaranteed starting shield tends to be a stronger choice than beginning with Trog.

If you're in that situation again, check for viable axes. You'd get one to a decent delay in no time at all with crosstraining, and can switch back to M&F once you find something decent.

Turn everything off except axes right away. Your weapon delay is atrocious - enemies will be getting multiple attacks on you for each of your hits.

Don't wear unid'd randarts.

The change should be tied to character classes. Give a better hp progression or fighting aptitude to fighters (holding species constant), and likewise for mp or spellcasting apt for a wizard, with gradations for classes in between.

Train summoning (and fighting, since yours is so low). Your rings should be cTele and either Robustness or rC. No reason to pass extremely cheap gains in survivability.

Enchanting shields is a waste imo. You gain more survivability by burning a few scrolls on your secondary armor, even if you will discard it several levels down the road.
