Giants. Think ogres turned to 11+felids+draconians. You can't use armor, conventionally one-handed weapons, rings, decks, wands, etc because your hands are too big, but you can use any 2hander with a shield. Scrolls are kosher, but you are not accustomed to reading such small writing, and begin with...

Re: Good raceclasses for new players with minimum spoilers?

Gourmand is very potent on a zerker. Not only does it permit liberal use of berserk (I've starved on quite a few conventional zerkers as a newbie in 0.8), but it also puts multichunk corpses to more efficient use, which means faster BIA/gifts. Of course Mi/Mf/HO/Ha are all stronger options once you ...

Kobold berserker - stay with maces (unless outstanding drops merit otherwise), berserk lesser threats, run/BIA vs serious ones. Probably the easiest combo to see your first rune, if not for the first win.

Early on, your conjurations should be raised to equal your fire magic. They contribute equally to all the relevant FE starting spells and your apts are the same, so train whichever is lower (and thus cheaper). Don't get more early spellcasting than you need to learn both conjure and sticky flame at ...

Alternatively, the dungeon is in one of the parts of the world (like the real-world Middle East) where the right hand is used to eat and the left is for wiping. Given the shortage of clean water and utter lack of hand sanitizer, offhand butchering would guarantee nausea/sickness.

This is probably very obvious to the more experienced players, but red draconian breath is incredible in the early-mid game.
