Re: DgTm, Looking training/spell advice

Funny, I just started playing this build last week and now it's one of my favorites. The first one I played was more magic oriented and primarily used statue form: http://crawl.develz.org/morgues/0.9/Hambone/morgue-Hambone-20110825-170647.txt Statue form is fun because you get to play like a heavy a...

YAVP - First 15 rune win! (HECr)

Morgue: http://crawl.develz.org/morgues/0.8/Hambone/morgue-Hambone-20110812-032001.txt This was just my second win - the first being a 3-rune with the same character build. Never even found a fourth rune before this; my first two characters to attempt the extended endgame splatted in Slime. I starte...

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

Does acquiring Hooves 1 as a demonspawn guarantee stages 2 & 3 eventually? I'm wondering because... 182 | D:1 | Gained mutation: You have large cloven feet. 182 | D:1 | Reached XP level 2. HP: 12/18 MP: 2/3 191 | D:1 | Reached skill level 1 in Armour 385 | D:1 | Identified a +1 pair of boots of ...

The anaconda that barely inconvenienced your melee characters WILL squeeze the life out of your squishy conjurer before you even realize what's happening.

Re: I think we learned an important lesson today.

Speaking of minotaur berserkers - I am doing SO much better with a MiBe than I was with MDFi's (my previous default heavy armored fighter). Demon trident + heavy shield: thematically/visually awesome and super effective. Even survived my unplanned trip to the abyss. Don't worry Trog, I still appreci...

Re: CiP: HeCr - My most successful character yet!

Woooooo!!! First win! The Orb Chamber wasn't too terrible, just took it very slowly and applied a full set of buffs before fighting anyone. Orbs of fire were brutal and turned me into a hideous freak, but at least I was already wearing an amulet of clarity (never found rMut) to deal with the berserk...

Re: CiP: HeCr - My most successful character yet!

Well, I just cleared Zot 1-5 except for the Orb Chamber.

Everyone's gotta die sometime. Here it goes.

Re: CiP: HeCr - My most successful character yet!

Phew, just barely made it out of the Vaults. Dropped down to 8 HP before successfully fleeing Boris and a group of yaktuars with the help of Deflect Missiles, Silence, and a teleport wand on Vault 7, then finally popped down to Vault 8 to find every staircase surrounded by a perfect circle of about ...

Re: CiP: HeCr - My most successful character yet!

Thanks so much, Slowcar! I went deeper in the main dungeon last night and finally found/learned 'Fly'. Been relying on a rod of warding for abjuration, but it's a pain in the ass so I'll try working up my spellcasting for some more spell levels. Blink sounds like a great idea too. And yeah, in addit...

CiP: HeCr - My most successful character yet!

I've got a high elf crusader going strong - level 21(!) and lots of good equipment. Just cleared out Elf 8, where my previous best character was wiped out, and I'm pausing to evaluate my situation and equipment. My katana (so awesome) and my gloves (no other options) are locked in and I've been stuc...

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

Just had an awesome string of luck, getting a +9,+0 katana (first I've ever seen!) from an acquirement scroll and then Oka gifted me a randart +9, -1 triple sword shortly after (slicing, str -2, stealth++). Which is better for my lvl 12 High Elf Crusader? Also, should I go ahead and start pumping s...

Re: #@%&! Help! Keyboard problem!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I managed to remove and reattach my arrow keys, and while I found a number of dog hairs, I don't think the problem was mechanical. I've encountered the same problem while auto-exploring with 'o', but the only effect in that case is a string of messages about a kobold...

#@%&! Help! Keyboard problem!

This is probably an issue with my computer instead of DCSS, but I've been having a problem where occasionally when repeatedly pushing an arrow key it locks in and repeats the command a zillion times in quick succession. This has happened a few times, either sending me flying in said direction or get...
