Has anyone tried going for an ogre warper with an eye toward using portal projectile to smite things with large rocks? It sounds pretty amazing to me, but I've never played ogres or warpers. What kind of god would be appropriate? I've found it better to just go Ogre Hunter and pick up portal projec...

At some point you're going to have to decide what your main way of killing things is going to be - melee or spells. Once you get a staff of air, for example, you can cast all the lightning around you want because of the inherit rElec it has, plus the spell boost it gives on top of Vehumet will make...

Re: How good is the antimagic brand?

The problem I have with the anti-magic brand is that once you close the gap to any spellcaster, you've already "won the battle" so to speak. Casters by nature have to get you from afar or they're not going to survive long and any other ranged attack or brand will usually do the killing jus...

Re: YAD: Middle castles need to impact the clock, seriously

I engaged it initially because I honestly didn't think it was an unseen horror - I thought it was an Orc wizard that had cast invisibility on itself, because, you know, I had no clue the clock had run out on me. Like I said, I thought I was playing normally. I don't think I could have made it to the...

Resistances. Don't even consider melee'ing them unless you have three pips of fire resistance + mutation resistance. Then you need to either hit hard or hit fast, preferably both.

YAD: Middle castles need to impact the clock, seriously

So I've got a decent early Ogre Hunter going. On level 4, I kill Edmund, but Blork is waiting for me, so I take an escape hatch down to D:5. In the middle of the level is a Gnoll castle. I battle most of the outliers, jackals and gnolls, then when I feel like I'm strong enough, I head back up to D:4...

Also, a related side question: if I detect a non-randart item to be cursed, is it always safe to just assume that it's negatively enchanted and throw it away? Actually, the pizza should slowly move towards you once you enter a level - when it gets you, you must tip (a gold or 5) to receive it. If it doesn't get to your location in 30 turns or less, though, it's free.

I did not use a shield in my last game (DGTm 15-runer) because I was using blade hands a lot and that buckler would just get melded into that transformation. In the early game, hordes are difficult until you get blade hands going (relying mostly on evaporate to soften up mobs or confuse them), then it's like a hot knife through butter. My last two online wins have been with Demigod. My DGWz got 11 runes (two demonic) but didn't have the resistances needed to get anywhere in Hell.
