Amulet of Harm drain

I equip-ID'ed an Amulet of Harm at XL2. I'm a Summoner and so took it off.

The drain nearly dropped me to all-zeroes skill-wise. I only just now finished working it off at the high end of XL6. I'm amazed I made it.

Is it intended that Harm is that punishing at XL2??

Loud sounds are made by the clang of combat, destructive spells, screaming etc -- which aren't normal sounds in the dungeon. (It's an internally peaceful society.)

Long blades do passive damage to surrounding mobs, it's a real difference.

% chance of knockback would be an example of a real difference, for maces. But I agree that being a pip higher in damage compared to the tier is already a unique thing about them.

It seems to be about creating favorable terrain and luring things into ambushes of oklob plants that you can stand behind and shoot through. I've dabbled with him and never felt powerful. You can get screwed on fruit drops. Reproduction can kill you.

I only skipped a small number of enemies, many tough ones I was able to deal with by retreating and coming back with bow&arrow, stealth, or a suitable immunity. Congrats, mostly!

Trolls can use regular shields with reduced penalties, and only need 9 skill to remove all penalties. (It's 15 skill for normal sized races.)

Well, the description of body armour is already wrong by omission. We could make it less-wrong by less-omission while still leaving out whatever's needed to avoid maximizing horribleness. eg "3 AC with a 14% reduction of an attacker's max melee damage".
