Switch armors gradually (robe -> ring mail -> scale mail).

1)Train necromancy by spamming Pain, until you can cast all your spells at Excellent.
2) Switch to new armor.
3) Repeat.

The heaviest armor I could cast in (without Chei) was Storm Dragon Armor.

vs

a +3,+5 longbow of velocity

I already know that the speed brand does less overall damage than the vorpal brand when it comes to ranged weapons, but the fire resistance is tempting.

Try getting a staff of energy. My SpVM was spamming orbs of destruction and poison cloud in Zot without having to worry about spell hunger.

People overreact to the xp loss. It's noticeable, but it's not really significant. There's more than enough experience in a normal 3-rune game to reach level 27, even if you use a weapon of draining all the time.

A sling of velocity with highly enchanted steel ammo deals a lot of damage. And halflings are great with slings. I saw one guy during the tournament paralyze Cerebov with a needle, so throwing seems to remain useful for the entire game.

I would use the long sword of speed with a buckler. The strength penalty won't cripple you, since you started as a berserker. If you want to go for a 15 rune victory definitively use that katana. :)

Don't use NetTiles. It's buggy and outdated. Besides, it lacks all of the tiles version's features. NetTiles is useful if you're too lazy to memorize monster glyphs. :P

Racial modifiers give a small bonus if you're using a weapon forged by your own race. For the most part, it's insignificant.

I prefer to use Sublimination of Blood when the crystal ball fails. It's much faster, even if it damages you. I only ever use the staff to get 2MP quickly, so I can use Sublimination.

I would use the shield of positive energy over Bullseye. Your shield skill is too low, so your casting penalty will be significant. Stick to bucklers for now.

Haunt is the 2nd best summoning spell. It summons several (various) ghosts that surround a monster. It has smite-targeting, so it's good for quickly ducking out of an enemy's LOS.
