His gifts are great IMHO. Sure, you get some stinkers (I recall getting the '-1 Shield of Fun and Games {rPois, -2 INT}' directly after the Shield of the Gong fixedart once), but that's part of the fun. Getting bonus arrows and javelins makes being a hunter nice.

Presumably, if you used the installer, it would likely have placed Crawl in your C:\Program Files (x86)\ directory (with no x86 if you're on an older non 64bit system). Though I wouldn't know as I use the zips myself.

If you've not found any of 1-4 AND those are the quality of your RandArts, you really do seem to cursed by the RNG. Did Vaults/Elf have nothing much of use? Nothing in your stash you can use? Well, if you think there is effectively just a net gain of +0 with the robe. However, your +2 Robes are effectively +4 AC when compared to this one. Still, extra slaying bonuses are nice. If you want to shape yourself into more of a glass cannon, go ahead, just hope you find Phase Shift or something...
