Re: Stealth - revisited

Scrolls of fog should be replaced by smoke bombs, which have a stealth-dependent chance of making monsters lose track of you in addition to their previous behavior.

Discord, "neutral" but they still attack you

Apparently, Zin forbids you from attacking monsters who are attacking you if you make them insane with Discord. I suppose it was a programming shortcut for Discord to just label enemies as "neutral" to allow them to attack each other. But they aren't neutral. They still try to kill you. Yo...

fix animate dead

Right now, animate dead and animate skeleton are mostly useless because the undead time out before they can get any value. The solution is to make a certain number, based on spellpower, not time out. If you create more of them than your unit cap, then the oldest undead time out quickly. Also, allow ...

Re: New Ashenzari redesign

IMO, new Ash is not very fun. The benefits are all passive and frustratingly random. It is also frustrating that you can't enchant something cursed, so you might be stuck waiting around for some enchants.

Re: Monster attack change, early Dungeon difficulty

No, it's a bad change. Orcs with halberds shouldn't attack at the same speed as orcs with daggers. A pack of meliais shouldn't be able to murder you before you can do anything.

Re: Undead Necromancers

I recently completed a single ziggurat with a mummy necromancer of Qazlal. Granted, I used a lot of melee, invocations, and evocations. But necromancy (namely, infestation, death channel, and bvc) was significant parts of my arsenal. Zot clock is not an issue. Mana is an issue, since you cannot drin...

Re: Dragon form idea

Not many characters can cast dragon form in dragon armor, except for crappy steam or mottled armor, and I don't think you want to be a steam dragon. Though, I suppose this could be changed by giving characters in dragon armor a bonus to spell success for casting dragon form. That would be kind of co...

Re: Rune Perks

If you are going to add rune perks, you should make them cool, not generic.
Slime rune: activate for a random mutation. recharge with xp.
Spider rune: activate to surround yourself with webs. Poisons you.

Re: Minotaurs should have berserkitis

No, it should be minotaurs, because they have a cultural tradition of being angry. And they are related to bovine. And in depictions of bullfighting, the bull is enraged by the red cloth. I think it's important to build off of cultural tradition, rather than introducing new species that nobody has e...

Re: spells with "interesting" targeting

I think fire magic is fine. I played a 15 rune fire elementalist and it felt pretty strong from start to finish. I think Starburst is better than bolt of fire, though not by much. It was a common occurrence to hit 3 opponents with Starburst without going way out of the way to set it up. It was prett...

Re: Remove 1 MP Spells

Level 1 spells are quickly obsoleted. I usually amnesia them first when I need more spell slots. Why should you save a level 1 spell for popcorn when you can simply wack it with your +9 foo which will do way more damage than your level 1 spell? Most level 1 spells have a power cap of 25-50, and even...

Re: Divine Exegesis piety cost should not be static

The other problem with it is that it requires a really high invocation level to use semi-reliably. If you simply put that invocation experience into leveling magic schools, you would have no problem casting any lower level spell without need for Divine Exegesis. Basically, it's only useful for casti...

Re: High-level poison spell

By the time you can cast a level 8 spell (especially a dual school level 8 spell), you are already tackling the extended end game, where most enemies are immune to poison. So, it sounds like the main point of the spell is to be a more powerful scroll of fog. Fogs are very useful, though probably not...
