Re: CIP - KoBe first time considering Zot

Heh I remember seeing your post. :) I had checked out the other board earlier, because I can read some German and I always love trying to read new things to see if I can. Yeah, the ring thing has kind of surprised me, especially since I've burned 3-ish scrolls of acquirement on jewelery. But the cou...

Re: CIP - KoBe first time considering Zot

So this has been interesting! I went ahead and went to the Abyss to train up Fighting a bit. I ended up procuring an abyssal rune, so whoo for me. It was mostly straightforward with a few crazy highlights. 1. The closest I came to dying was when I was fighting some smaller demons and I spotted a Bal...

Cool, good to know.

In the meantime, though, what should I do next?

Re: CIP - KoBe first time considering Zot

All righty, so I first went and grabbed an okay (randart?) buckler from a shop, and then I went and parsed through blues. I successfully found a ring mail of rF, so that was nice. I went through Elf1-4 and Crypt 1-4. Elf was absolute cake, and it made me wonder if I'd be okay doing Elf:5, but I know...

Re: CIP - KoBe first time considering Zot

Mkay, I'll go pour over Elf 1-4 and Crypt to see what I get. If I don't get anything, I'm thinking I should start parsing those blue armors to see what I get. A couple questions: 1. Is it a travesty that I never picked up a shield? (i.e. should I go get one?) 2. (a sort of a stupid one) How do you u...

CIP - KoBe first time considering Zot

Hey all, I'm still pretty new to this game; I found it prolly about a month or two ago. Previously I only ever got to the bottom of Lair and Orc a few times, but never past that. But lately I've been trying the KoBe and I've finally got a lot farther; for a while I had favored the MiBe because I fel...

Re: Thank you!

Totally a new noob to this game, too. Found it about a week and a half ago (maybe two weeks now), and I've been playing it an awful lot. As far as roguelikes go, I had ever only played Nethack and ADOM, and I really came to absolutely detest ADOM (I never did make it that far in it...) Say what you ...

Re: More advice for a newbie?

You can find out more about reducing the attack delay here: http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/bots As for spells, Throw Frost/Flame are both good to learn once you get Vehumet's first book. Mystic Blast is good to learn from the second book. You do not always want to learn/use the highest level spe...

Re: More advice for a newbie?

Here's a bunch of minor things, but your characters look to be decent shape overall. I also wouldn't be so quick to turn short blades off. Keep it on until you hit minimum delay. You can train any physical combat skill, including fighting, to level 1 by attacking plants. You were very focused towar...

Re: More advice for a newbie?

One thing that sticks out with your spriggan is the complete lack of fighting skill. Fighting gives hp, so you want to train that a bit on every char. Put your new knowledge of victory dancing to use on some rats when you have spare xp. Oh, really? I didn't know that. So, to do that, I'd just go ah...

Re: More advice for a newbie?

Scumming is where you make a backup of your game to reload if you die. It's scummy. You can also start scum by restarting new games if initial circumstances don't suit you. Victory dancing is where you do the same action over and over again to pump your experience pool into a skill. So you kill an ...

More advice for a newbie?

Hello Dungeon Crawl folks, I just recently found this game about a week and a half ago. I used to play Nethack as a kid and finally beat it later on in my life. Later I tried to play ADOM and hated it because I couldn't figure it out, but so far I've been enjoying Crawl. I'm currently playing the tr...
