To me the big advantage of claws UC is that you can hit as hard as a 2-handed great mace whilst wearing a tower shield.

I may have misunderstood how demonic touch works though. If it truly only triggers when you have a 1-handed weapon + no shield, that does sound like terrible design.

Pain is a Hex, it needs to 'travel' in the same way Petrify does.

A spell which can travel through undead could be interesting, but I think it shouldn't be in the Necromancy school. Necromancy is already extremely self-contained.

They could just get marked as useless, just like ?enchant scrolls are marked as useless for Felids, and ?summoning gets marked as useless when you sacrifice love.

I really like this proposal.

I really enjoy sleep stabbing stuff, but in the late game sleep stabs are often unwise because you can end up in the middle of a pack of chasing monsters. With this proposal you could escape from those situations more easily, provided you invest enough into stealth.

I'd have gone with the crystal plate. It's amazing in the late game if you dump all your enchant armour scrolls on it, and a staves FoFi shouldn't have any trouble surviving the early game. Also you can expect to find a couple (~3) lajatangs every 3rune game.

I never really skip, but sometimes I back out. I recently had a character come within a hairs breadth of dying because he was completely ill-equipped to deal with the cave's simulacra. Luckily he survived because the simulacra can't follow you out the exit. Personally I get killed most in fire caves.
