I would have said no, because running away from enemies to get free attacks is a degenerate playstyle. It's not very fun and largely unrealistic. Having a colour/behaviour for 'not usable now, potentially useful in the future' would be nice.
There's a lot of special cases, like Teleport in the gauntlet.

I believe it's pretty bad. It's useful in the early game, (stronger than a buckler,) but when you have the xp available to get a kite shield or 2-hander, it'll be stronger to forget about it.
That's based on theory crafting though. I find it pretty hard to test this kind of thing practically.

Their poor aptitudes (and hp) scare me out of doing a stabby run with them, whilst with ranged weapons they seem to be inferior to the Elves. I mean, Deep Elf has the same ranged aptitude, same hp, better support aptitudes, and more LOS.

I feel like that would be a significant nerf to EE. After all, Sandblast in its current state is useful well into Lair, and at that point stones are no longer much a limitation.

It feels weird when strength is literally useless.
This is already the case for Draconians with a blade or ranged weapon. In the past Strength at least increased weapon damage and SH.

The only thing I'd change about this design is to remove the instability effect, and instead have the enchantment removed as part of the wrath.

Even if you could end up having end game gear with an extra +9 on your weapon and an extra 20 AC, I think it'd be fine. Oka and TSO are strong too.

Naga's used to be good with shields because they could negate the shield penalty with only 9 / 15 skill for a kite / tower shield. But they've also got an aptitude of -2.

I'm not a streaker either, but it's exceptionally rare for me to lose a Naga in the early dungeon.
It's a combination of stealth, spit poison, stairdancing, and carefulness. Naga's having high health and rPois and Sinv also helps sometimes.
