I completely agree it would be bad if it was implemented for all species. But in Crawl there is room for species with funky characteristics. There are also mutations which are only bad for melee dudes (notably berserkitis).

There's already Slow Healing 1, which blocks hp regenerations when monsters are in LOS, which is one of the Ghoul mutations.
I imagine a mutation which blocks mp regeneration could work similarly.

Yes I agree, it could be a nice mutation. And you could put it on a species. It might be interesting, but I can't think of a species that'd be particularly suitable. Also the effect will be relatively minor, especially with Sif, Vehm and staffs of energy in the game.

I'd suggest
MP reserved= spell level / (success) ^((1+spell level)/2)
That way statue form costs 16 MP at 75% success rate, and regeneration is still easy to cast.

I wouldn't worry about using pure bows. I've played characters with pure bows without Oka, and after you meet your first centaur you never run out of arrows.
TSO is good, and can give you a holy longbow. Oka might be acceptable too.

I expect !Heal would not give me enough hp though - I just lost half my hp in 1 turn. This was because the Blood Saint was hasted and he hit me with 2 (undodgable) major destructions. I don't think !Heal gives at least a quarter of my hp, does it?

Also, it helps to figure out whether you can kill TRJ before you go into Slime.
With your skills (16 evocations to be exact) you could have killed TRJ if you had had a scroll of vulnerability, but going into Slime without a plan seems pretty pointless. (As you said, you'll just get bad mutations.)

That stucks.
Beyond better MR (which can be impossible) and better tactics (which you probably learn from failure like this one), extra stealth could also have saved you. (Particularly since you're wearing a robe)

I actually like the flavour of having inedible corpses - and especially that playing with Vampire/ghoul/TSO changes which corpses are edible.
