Maybe I misunderstand something in the OP. I did not see that the required XP to restoring revive is necessarily tied to the character XP. A better solution would be to simply base it on the number of previous deaths: with 0 deaths it is cheap, with 8 deaths it is expensive. So it is clear that not...

I agree that seeing exclamation marks for the % of max hp damage done would, in general, be more useful than exclamation marks for absolute damage. I still use auto-skilling, sometimes, though never at the start of the game.
Sometimes it's just easier. You don't have to switch which skills you're training as often when using it.

Statueform is 50% slower than Dragonform, which makes things appear to die relatively fast (from your perspective) whilst still giving them more actions before they die.
Against OoF specifically, rF++ should make Dragonform tanky enough.

It sounds like you may have placed the lighting spire suboptimally since you had to use beckoning, though sometimes that can't be avoided. Also dragon form would have helped more than statueform.
But you're mostly just unlucky. Melee dudes get mutated :(

Definately enchant the dragon scales, If they suit your character. You might well want to replace the shields at some point, but very few armours beat maximally enchanted gold dragon scales.

Just equip the shields and watch what happens to AC, EV and SH. If you use spells, also look as spell success. Generally I maximise AC + EV+SH.
+6 str, rPois, rN+ is a nice buff, and might make the shield worth using.

If you're comparing to throwing, and using 'optimal play', the only strategic advantage is that Slings need less xp. (At 14 skill a Fusti might just do more damage than a javelin.) There's also the practical advantage of not having to think as much about ammo and having less inventory slots used up....

Yes, I think mostly the sweet gear.

Enemies getting 'distracted by gold' is also a noticeable buff, and potion petition is a good panic button provided you recognise trouble whilst you still have most of your hp.

Ideally you'd go down the stairs first to magic map, then take the shaft. If there are no choke points and all the walls are crystal, you don't want to go in (this happened to me once). With your stealth you should be able to keep the fight fairly localised.

I agree with VAF.
If you are happy with 'only' 6 runes, I would find it easiest to stick with Trog and get a Hell rune. In hell you can choose what threats you want to face and you can get out when you feel threatened.

This would make tabbing much more complicated/inconvenient.

It would also reduce the overlap in function between reposte and cleave, which I would find sad. (Pseudo-)cleaving is nice.

Returning to the OP, it would appear sufficient to make the reposte chance scale with longblade skill.

For what it's worth, I don't dislike the OP proposal, but I think throwing is already sufficiently differentiated.

Javelins are insane, throwing has good damage but ammo problems, and throwing even helps with darts. Throwing and slings are extremely different to me.
