Returning and penetration brands are ignored when using portal projectile. My guess is that it's intentional, but I don't know for sure. It can make you think twice about using Portal Projectile, so I think it's a good feature, but I don't have a strong opinion about it.

Your Fighting and M&F skill levels are also relevant since they multiply base damage. I'll assume you have about 16 in each and thus get about +60% to base damage. The STR you have mentioned also provides you about +37.5% to base damage. These stack multiplicatively, to become +120% base damage....

Teleporting after a shaft is generally a mistake. I talked about that in another thread.
