I remember seeing a dev post around here that said you can't be paralyzed the turn you enter fainting range. Its not the same as stat zero debuffs. It was my impression that you can't be paralyzed the turn you enter fainting. I think this impression is wrong, you were just lucky before. As far as I know it is typical to get paralyzed the same turn when Str reaches 0, for example. Don't be frustrated, you tried to game the system by insider inf...

Vaults 5, cast shatter a few times. (monsters at edge of vision), no walking/attacking etc. Just casting. For all I know, http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Spellpower is still accurate. It should answer all your questions. For all I know, http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Spellpower is still accurate. It should answer all your questions. I was going off that until playing around in wizard mode I saw it shows exact spellpower; which means the display of spellpower is terribly inaccurate if the wiz mode is indeed correct.

You left out another pro of firestorm, the high damage. Ignition does calc_dice(3, 10+pow/3) damage per explosion, or about 3d(3.3+pow/9). Fire Storm, on the other hand, does calc_dice(8, 5 + pow), or about 8d(0.63 + pow/8). At 100 power, that's over twice the damage from Fire Storm (56 vs 24). So ...
