Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

I've started playing and enjoying some sludge elf transmuters. A similar class seems to be stalker, no morphing but more stealth and stabbing and general utility. When you would you play stalker as opposed to transmuter? Also, I'm in the lair found a scroll of acquirement. What do you like to use it...

hmm, I might try high elf wizard then, what do you guys think about sif muna vs vehumet? I used to always do sif, but I really like guaranteed access to mystic blast and the other good spells from the book of power.

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

I'm now finding that my recent deaths are because I run out of mana. I'm loosely following the conjurator guide on the wiki, he seems to recommend sif muna for this purpose. Not running out of mana seems especially critical for nagas as they really can't escape by running, with other races I can run...

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

What is your opinion on the four elemental schools? I'd imagine ice/air is better than fire/earth, but I haven't played enough to know for sure.

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

I'm actually having success with a naga caster right now. I started as a wizard and got vehumet, meph cloud or imp spam can take care of most early game troubles. Question: If I click on my spellbook in my inventory I see a list of spells I can learn. Some are black or white, best guess is that I ha...

Re: Class Rankings

I know this isn't an advice thread, but can I ask how ice elementalist works? The difficulty I have is that there is no good form of crowd control or escape. Air can run away with swiftness, otherwise no mephitic or even conjure flame. When I first run into ogres or orc priests who smite me all the ...

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

What are the best races for casters who also don't like to die? Anything else good to know on good caster survivability? My best character was a merfolk enchanter, but that was in 0.7 and supposedly they got nerfed. Otherwise I've had decent success with high elves, nagas, and kenkus. It just gets f...

Re: 4 Oklob plants block my way!

all is well, I did orcs which I've found at least on the 4th level to be much harder than in 0.7, it was a fun challenge though. I found a resist corrosion amulet in one of the orc stores, I came back and was able to kill most of them with wands, they really don't do a ton of damage it seems. I foun...

4 Oklob plants block my way!

Hope I did the character dump code thing correctly. I'm on Lair:5 and I've found that 4 oklob plants are guarding the way to all 3 staircases to the next level. I don't have any sort of resist corrosion stuff, is there a great risk here for me to run in and blast them one by one with mystic blast or...

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

I'm playing an air elementalist high elf of sif muna. I lucked out and found a book of power for mystic blast. Sif just gifted me a book with throw icicle which I can cast at very good. I've got about 11 on spellcasting, conjuration, and air magic, but zero ice magic. Is throw icicle a better level ...

Is there a list of how many turns certain actions take? I came upon a 27-headed hydra and went starving from casting bolt of fire. I figured I'd eat a bread ration so I could use a spell to teleport away. After I finished eating, I found that he had plenty of time to eat me ):

I suppose it's more of a convenience if anything. Half of the benefit is to allow you to eat poison corpses, but if you're getting enough to eat there's no need. Otherwise just be careful, kill them before they can poison you.

Is there a way to make my own warning/confirmation questions? The easy answer is just pay more attention, but sometimes I'm still caught off guard. Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

As I get out of early game I feel like I've got a bunch of different skills that all need experience. Last game I was a high elf wizard with spellcasting at 14, conj and fire around 12. I'm sure those need to be leveled up, but I also want to level up fighting for hp, as well as dodging, stealth, ar...

I've got a new character and I'm doing pretty well, did Lair 1-7 and now went to the orcish mines. I found that sections aren't connected very well. I fell down a shaft and had to use a couple teleport scrolls to find my way back out. How do you safely explore the mines without getting trapped?

Ann, I've always gotten Sif Muna, the idea of having access to every spellbook, even though it's unpredictable, is certainly appealing. I certainly don't need all of them though. His gifts will suffice for damage, though I'm hoping to have access to translocations and enchantments, stuff like blink,...

Hey, just started playing the game recently. Thought the complex system and perma death would be a turnoff, but it's surprisingly addictive, there's very little downtime and you gotta stay on your toes. I guess the main question is knowing when to fight and when to run. Every time I've encountered a...
