You didn't mention your build but if you had a few levels in stealth they might not have all seen you. Also it is a game based on chance you could be extremely unlucky. Yeah, but I always seem to end up on the constant verge of starving when I'm not a troll (berserker anyway); since I can't eat unless I'm hungry and as soon as I get hungry nothing ever drops a corpse. (And any attempt to pre-chop anything ends up with it rotting shortly before getting hungry)
