Improve descriptions on eveningstar, double+triple sword

I have some flavor suggestions which are entirely pedantic, but they've bugged me long enough that I feel like bringing them up: Eveningstar The "eveningstar" in Crawl is meant to be a joke, a play on "morningstar" (a real weapon). The joke is fine - I actually think eveningstar ...

Re: New launcher system

Allow me to remind you how dangerous orc priests are in early D levels and then apply that template to every enemy Centaur as well. That is all. Admittedly I was only thinking about player archers, I didn't consider extending it to enemies too. The asymmetry in behavior could possibly be handwaved ...

Re: New launcher system

I was thinking about the issue of ranged combat allegedly being uninteresting, and I had the following idea that I wonder if it's any good: what if all ranged weapons used Smite-targeting? That is, the purpose of ranged weapons would not be to extend range, but to specifically target enemies that ca...

Re: Is this supposed to be fun?

The problem with this argument is that the crimson imp doesn't resemble any other challenge faced in the game. Well, that kind of was my point; I like their uniqueness. I like the "oh crap" moment when you realize that this thing can heal faster than you can hit it. And while I do take te...

Re: Is this supposed to be fun?

Personally, as a player I have always liked the imp archetype of being a monster that causes you trouble in ways other than merely being a physical threat or damage sponge as 99% of monsters are. I remember when I first started out in Crawl and encountered imps, and realized I was dealing with a mon...

Re: Prevent self-targeting with ranged weapons?

My point is devs should not be afraid to change defaults or even remove deprecated options. They aren't, generally, which is why I don't feel too bad suggesting this. :) It's actually something I feel like I should have suggested a long time ago; after years of playing Crawl I finally realized that...

Prevent self-targeting with ranged weapons?

Maybe there are good reasons to self-target that I'm unaware of, but the only one I can think of is to hit oneself with a dispersal weapon in order to self-blink, which feels a bit cheesy to me anyway. Otherwise, I find it interrupts the flow when I'm whittling down enemies with the very convenient ...

Re: Does contamination do anything?

For the record I'm not advocating that contamination be removed; I like it! It's a unique concept that I've never seen in other games. It's just that it's never seemed to be relevant is all, which seems to fly against the usual DCSS philosophy of cutting out the cruft.

Fedhas shouldn't care if your wandering mushroom dies

I think that there shouldn't be any piety loss if a wandering mushroom ally gets killed. It doesn't make sense to me either flavorfully or mechanically, for several reasons: - It's more difficult and inconvenient to have to protect mushrooms because of the way they move. - Generally, I don't actuall...

Re: Does contamination do anything?

I like to think that the bad stuff might be interesting at least :) The thing is, I've played Crawl for years, and to me, "Contam" is just a word that appears sometimes and then goes away. It's never even accidentally been a problem. (Also, I can't think of many reasons why I'd string hast...

Does contamination do anything?

Hey all, long-time player but first-time commenter. I wanted to talk about something that's always bugged me a little. What's the in-game effect or significance of magical contamination? I mean, I know what it's supposed to do, in that if you get too contaminated, bad things like mutations happen, b...
