Re: centaur kiting nonsense

Thanks for directing me to some awesome videos, but I didn't see any rejoneadors stabbing bulls while fleeing down a narrow corridor from a charging bull.. from ten feet away. If you start questioning range of weapons in crawl beyond "polearms reach 2 tiles away"(who says 2 tiles is 10 fe...

Thanks for directing me to some awesome videos, but I didn't see any rejoneadors stabbing bulls while fleeing down a narrow corridor from a charging bull.. from ten feet away. Horses can't move backwards that quickly, nor can someone fight backwards that easily on a horse, especially from range. (An...

Hell before pan?

You can always bail from hell, right?

(Well unless you can't, but in pan you always can't in the places that you mainly go there for.)

Or wrong?

Re: Player poison

some opposing arguments: 1. being lethally poisoned creates interesting emergency situations. 2. It makes poison scarier from RP/atmosphere perspective 3. This poison would be more dangerous in a random way. Whether or not another monster is present is something you can't generally control, and whic...

Re: Don't make ogre a fat human

p.s. I never said anything about large rocks. Personally I can take them or leave them. They're cool but not unique to ogre, and imo a better fit for trolls, who are that bit more monstrous. I wouldn't mind a bad aptitude there. And G(S)C every game is only minus weapon skill choice. If weapon choic...

Re: Don't make ogre a fat human

Yes, it certainly is easy to describe the version you like in glowing, positive terms and the version you don't like in negative ones, that is definitely true. Watch: "Ogres were cookie-cutter brutes who were crap at magic but vaguely claimed that they weren't (they still were). Now they're cl...

Re: Don't make ogre a fat human

Here is the thing about arguments based on flavor: You can argue in favor of literally anything based on flavor, because flavor is entirely subjective . What the heck does "intuitive spellcasting" even mean, for instance? Last I checked Crawl didn't have an Intuition stat. You realize thi...

Re: Don't make ogre a fat human

Here are some stats on the changing play styles of Ogre pre- and post-change: Query: !lg * !newogres og thisyear / <kw> |warrior|berserker|warriormage|mage|other| old | 40%| 33%| 13%| 10%| 5%| new | 40%| 14%| 23%| 19%| 4%| I think it's clear this change made non-meleedude Ogres significantly more v...

Re: Don't make ogre a fat human

"fat caster" is not generic Sure, it doesn't have to be, but the new ogre happens to be. More imporantly, there's no reason to delete something great for even something else great. Personally, I feel that the new ogre sucks, but maybe I'm biased or wrong or stupid, or all 3. It doesn't ma...

Re: Bikeshedding time: Power Leap

I know- I think it works that way as well, but it's more debatable: The path you take extends via another realm, between the one point and the other. This realm could be be a part of underlying supporting structure of (this) reality, thereby causing the local destablisation.

centaur kiting nonsense

Could the game track the general direction of a centaur's last movements, and make attacking backwards impossible or less accurate based on them? A centaur galloping away from an enemy would barely be able to reach it's own ass with a polearm, let alone attack an enemy two squares away. (An exceptio...

If there's two monsters who can attack me, how do I know in which order the effects will hit me? So for example if I'm using a shield, which get reduced block chance every time they block a hit, how do I know which of two creatures of equal speed will hit me first? If one is very strong and one is ...

Re: Bikeshedding time: Power Leap

On the topic of ru bikeshedding, should "sacrifice" be "relinquish"? As I picture it the idea is that as you transcended reality these mortal things began to fade away, or otherwise be lost, not that you're sacrificing your flesh as if to some aztec good, which "sacrifice&qu...

Imo it makes great sense lore/immersion/atmoshperewise: The reason monsters cast hellfire and torment 'randomly' is that they're invoking forces beyond their control, that may not always be available from moment to moment, or that they may fail to invoke/channel/etc. These forces are always in flux,...

7 deadly sins, races, related minotaur idea

First off I know this post is dumb. Please don't judge my post on ogres on its basis. Also it's kind of 2 seperate topics, takes a pretty hard shift halfway through. Greed, lust and envy apply to everyone hounding after the orb, and the contents of an entire dungeon. Greed more for compulsive 15 run...

(In 0.20, Ogres are scheduled to get their Mace and flail aptitude nerfed from excellent (3) to below average (-1), in exchange for get better ability to focus individual spell schools (-3 to -1 for all individual spell schools). https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/8e39459e6cb5dfcf577dc2e8f4d6754f...
