Re: Trunk update on the 24th, no more racial weapons

I'd be happy to see all racial items done away with if we get to keep most of the functionality they used to bring, which would mean something to compensate Beoghites, a stealth brand for cloaks and a masterwork brand or similar for metallic armours.

Re: All scrolls auto-ID on pick up

To add to the suggested changes, perhaps enchant and brand weapon scrolls can be made targeted so that you don't have to ensure you're wielding whichever weapon you're trying to enhance when read-IDing them (and would also give more symmetry with enchant armour)

Re: The larger species and fragility

I've always wanted there to be ogre/troll warrior enemies which wore armour and occasionally used a shield as well. Orcs and nagas get such a fine treatment, let's have some love for the other big and burly races. This isn't really related to the topic but I find the argument 'well ogre monsters are...

Re: The larger species and fragility

To me the only reason to play an Ogre is to use a bigger weapon than any other race can use effectively, being able to use a great mace with a shield would fit the bill just as well as a GSC, but I would think that gmace + shield would be even more of a no-brainer than GSC since they can generate en...

I feel the same way about sticks to snakes, it's pretty terrible to admit but I definitely use that spell less than I should just because of the annoyance of having to swap weapons around.

Midgame Ogs are great at bashing things with clubs, until they take a dozen yaktaur bolts to the knees. Yaktaurs are speed 10, back them up to a corner. Yeesh, how many characters have I ascended and I still thought yaktaurs were faster than average? I suppose there's such a thing as being too caut...

I managed to get a NaFi to 27 without realising that Temporal Distortion even exists, I should probably pay more attention. Luckily that char has 50 AC and SH so I was able to just tab through hordes of yaktaurs. Would have saved some piety from time to time though.

Re: New player lost without numbers

With the right kind of scale, I think this would be a good way to show spell damage. Main thing you want to know isn't the raw dice rolls, it's how good x spell is compared to y. It goes without saying that something similar for weapons in inventory would also be extremely useful. I know this has b...

On a more serious note, what's a good god choice for these guys? Being an unarmed and mostly armourless hybrid really reduces the number of useful god abilities, especially if you don't want to branch out into other spell schools until later on. I've been using Okawaru just for Heroism and an almost...

I agree with whoever said grey draconians are really unappealing; they're not so much weak or anything like that, they just don't have any of the sorts of perks that I kind of expect from draconians to actually make them interesting (this also applies somewhat to yellow but at least they have a brea...

I don't like this change, especially since Mi always seemed like the perfect niche for a Large size race with good armour apt which would handily differentiate them better from MD. I'll admit that HO and MD have always been pretty similar, though. I'm more annoyed that this seems like an easy way ou...

I like this suggestion, but doesn't it make the distinction between Sif and Vehumet smaller? It removes Vehumet's unique reliability at getting certain spells at certain times, and also increases the number of spells that Vehumet can gift, making Sif's unlimited book gifts less appealing, at least i...

I'd like to see more nagas with shields (and large shields on warriors), they use them occasionally but rarely and it would make them a bit tougher if they were more common, as well as giving more drops.

A couple of the game's layouts do tend to be pretty repetitive. A good example of this is layout_big_octagon. layout_cross can also have this problem, although it at least has a number of variations. Other open layouts (eg layout_city) aren't as problematic though. Agree with this 100%. It's not th...

A lot of ice caves have nothing but wolves, polar bears and yaks with a frost giant at the end and they're usually easy to take out, or at least partially clear for xp if you have an even moderately strong character, or one that can cast freezing cloud, animate dead or poison cloud reliably.

Trying one of these and I was lucky enough to snag a trident of venom and a book with Lightning Bolt from Orc early on, plus a ring of control tele in the dungeon so if I die it'll be entirely my fault (unless I get a shaft trap onto a fire drake that 2shots me like my last mummy). 3. Can a kenku still fly if they are transmuted into another form, eg spider? As far as I remember this works roughly intuitively, so that if your new form has a shape and size conducive to flight then it flies. So in other words, lichform, dragon form (not sure if you still get the special kenku b...

This spell seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. As an unarmed-boosting transmutation, compared to using Blade Hands, you lose more item slots in exchange for AC, HP and some resists but get slowed, and your damage goes up but you swing slower so overall there's not a huge change. It has some u...
