Re: Scrolls of Identification

Of course I use them. I have no other choice.

However, it doesn't add any value to the game, just an extra chore.

If you want to have an "identification subgame", things would need to be reworked from the ground up.

Re: Scrolls of Identification

It seems that the next version will mostly eliminate the identification subgame. The only things that need to be identified are potions and scrolls. There wasn't any identification subgame in the first place, except maybe in some niche cases. I mostly never even used Identification scrolls for anyt...

Re: Can a melee fighter defeat the Tomb?

Out of my only two 15 rune wins, both have been melee characters. One was Deep Dwarf with Makhleb. Obviously, Makhlebs main thing is health gain on kills. It's super useful. The other was a Minotaur with TSO. Both gods give strong summoned allies. TSO has a nice AoE ability. Also, I never went full ...

I've never went past 5 runes with a spellcaster, my only 15 rune wins/attempts have been with melee type characters. I've currently got a Mummy fire elementalist of Gozag going and I plan to go extended, but I'm totally unfamiliar with high level spells and how spellcasters deal with late-game threa...

Why not implement a loot filter like the ones you see in games such as Path of Exile? You choose which items (and categories of items) you want shown, others are hidden and accessible only with a separate command. That way, if you set up a loot filter properly, if you see an item on the ground, ther...

Re: As a new player, dungeon feels too long

I'm gonna argue that a good permadeath game NEEDS to be long. In a game like Spelunky, I don't care if I die because an entire run is 30-45 minutes long. If I die, I can restart and get back again to where I died very quickly. I don't mind taking risks because I don't have a lot to lose. But if I in...

1. Any kind of weapon can win you the game, especially 3-rune. Only reason to choose one over the other is if you find a really exceptional artefact weapon you want to use. 3. Only if you're close to the skill level required for removing the penalty. 4. Evocations are fantastic and many evocable ite...

There are a few main reasons why food exists in the game. 1. To introduce a soft timer into the game. The clock is slowly ticking, and when you run out of food, you die. 2. To limit overuse of spells and abilities (like berserk) The food is not there because it's realistic for living beings to requi...

I am not sure how to approach this as a pure melee char like this. You don't approach it as a pure melee char. Having a ranged option is super useful. I usually go for throwing, or if I find a good sling, I go for slings. Without ranged attacks, in the best case scenario you're just wasting turns w...

So far, I've won with various melee builds, a couple of ranged builds and a Spriggan Enchanter (i.e. stabber), so no dedicated casters. In all cases, I've found Vaults to be the easiest 3rd rune to get. Vault has the most amount of "normal" monsters, i.e. ones that don't inflict special ef...

This game doesn't have a difficulty setting. You pick your difficulty by picking your race, in some sense.

It's fine if some races are more powerful than others. Nothing needs to be changed about Deep Dwarves IMO.

Exactly opposite is true. Instead of using rings of slaying/AC/EV/Str/Dex new players choose extra rF+ and rC+ because they see that their resistances are not maxed yet.
