What should be done is that, unless you tell the minion to wait. It should eventually follow you down a stairway behind you after you move off the stairway, remove the micromanagement and tediousness involved in the shepherding of minions around. You already get punished a lot by not getting the XP...

The problem with adding new attacks or AoE is that it would necessitate a dramatic change melee mechanics to keep the game balanced.
