Re: Newby advice for Minotaur Fighter

If you need the resists, then gold dragon armor. If you can max your resists other ways then use crystal plate, as it has higher damage reduction. Your goal should be the crystal plate, if you can get the rest of your gear in order.

Thanks. Most of the speed comes from a lot of keyboard shortcuts, and a copious amount of auto-explore and tab combat for easy encounters. 'o' until I find something. 'tab' until it is dead. 'Ctrl>' to quickly go down to the next floor.

Bel's weapon advice is good. For branches, I would say a safe order is something like the following. 1) Dungeon until lair. 2) Clear lair. 3) Clear orc. 4) Dungeon down until the depths portal. 5) The easier of the random lair branches. I would rank them in order of increasing difficulty as swap/spi...

If your main method of dealing damage is magic, you almost certainly want to use a shield. It isn't like you care about smashing with two handers, so you might as well get some protection out of the deal. That is especially true if you are wearing 0 EVP armor, as you require less shield skill mitiga...

I normally try to steer people away from mummies, but ice elementalist mummies do have some things going for them. The big one is that they work really well with Ozocubu's Refrigeration. To be somewhat more specific, shield penalties aren't just accuracy. If you are using a hand-and-a-half weapon, your weapon damage and delay will also incur a random penalty between 0 and your shield penalty. If you are using a one hander, that attack delay penalty is calculated twice, and the lesse...

One of the classic pure melee builds is a strong-species (MD or Mi) fighter/gladiator of Okawaru with a late-game switch to TSO. I'd prefer Minotaurs, due to their aptitude in Long Blades - when blessed, these get most of a buff in addition to the holy wrath. Try to train Shields along the way. Oka...

Read up on the punishment of the god you are abandoning, and decide whether or not you are strong enough to survive it. There are some useful items you listed there. Rings of regeneration are good if you are playing for points, to cut down on turn count. I would definitely disagree with that, yes. If you want to play a KoBe while not encouraging stealth and stabbing, you should be using a demon whip instead of a short blade. Shame about the naga.

The minimum delay is half of the base delay, rounded down. At least, that is the case for most weapons. Every two points in weapon skill decreases your weapon delay by one.

For the full story, you can see the attack speed entry in the wiki.

There actually would be some downsides to the suggested decrease in mana pool method. Say you are a pure caster buffing up before taking on something really hard, like a pan/hell lord.
