Re: No SustAt for extended

Potions of Brilliance/Agility/Might temp increases your INT/DEX/STR (among other effects), 40 to 80 turns. You may also wanna carry some extra equipment that raises the particular stat. Even if it's not very good, swapping when needed may just save your ass when you're hitting stat-zero. By the way,...

Re: Luring (was: DCSS has a power creep problem)

I'll say it for the third time, groups already have AI to keep them together. Yes, it's still possible to separate individual creatures - otherwise the group could get bogged down even more easily than they already do - but they already try to stay together. Waaay too insufficient (the proficiency ...

Re: Luring (was: DCSS has a power creep problem)

Just make all members of the group chase you if one of them does. A simple idea, but I have no idea how hard this is to code. That would kill luring completely and be unrealistic. Monsters don't have walkie talkies. If you manage to split up a group, that should count for something. Coding: Group i...

Re: Luring (was: DCSS has a power creep problem)

if you run into your brother's room with a hammer, it's really hard to hit him in the cock with it. but if you wait outside his door until he opens it and has his guard down, it's really easy. so i think the tactics for luring monsters are very intuitive I see you've read Sun Tzu's Art of War. IMO,...

Re: CIP: MiFi, help me not die please.

Cleaving isn't good or matter on this consideration at all. I respectfully disagree. Cleaving is da bomb. Well worth the base stat trade off (in comparison with Long Blades). Given how a melee fighter already has high AC, you'd benefit more from higher damage output than extra SH. This is especiall...

Re: CIP: MiFi, help me not die please.

You may wanna quaff a CureMut. As far as Axe weapons, 2h Axes are generally preferred over 1hAxe+Shield, since you're all about that cleaving. But you've already invested quite a lot into Shields. It depends on the loot, if you get a nice Broad Axe and Shield, pick that (you already got the skills),...

Autoexplore, 2 issues

1) It doesn't work well with translucent walls. It considers it explored, even if you can see some stuff behind it (but can't reach it.).

2) When it says, "partially explored, can't reach some places...". I'd like it to tell me WHICH places.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, 15 runes is no big deal really. In late game, once you get the hang of Torment, you can just OP everything.

Heh, by the end, when escaping with the Orb, I had a Pan lord trying to cross me, biiiig mistake, went through him like butter.

YAVP #1 (15 runes) MiBe... Finally!

My very first win! Haaaaaaaaaaa feels good. Finally, I can have my life back. Pure melee build under Trog, switched to TSO around level 25, then started adding Translocation and later Summoning to my arsenal. Ironically, the loot in this run was the most MEAGER I ever had, like D:9 and still only my...

If I'm to be brutally honest. I think DCSS has design flaws on the fundamental level!

It's both too easy and too long. The toast is too big and the jam is spread too thin.

I describe unfairness as sudden spikes of difficulty.

My complaint is that DCSS needs MORE unfairness. MORE!

To add to earlier post: I always equip-id equipment. This brings some risk with it, worst being Contamination (from unequipping) and Banishment (25% chance from unequipping weapon of Dispersal), but those are low chance and I just take it on the chin.

I'm a slightly experienced player, playing melee brutes exclusively. Re: A question on "infinte skill points"

I think the general opinion is that if you're strong enough to safely grind the Abyss (or Pandemonium), you're strong enough to win the game. So there's no problem. Really? In my newbie opinion there is a huge difference in 'general ability' between say a MiBe who just hit lvl 27 and has max skill ...

A question on "infinte skill points"

Once you hit say XP level 20, you can go (through a portal in the Depths) to the Abyss and (relatively) safely grindkill till max level and from there continue grinding for all the skill points you want. This makes race aptitudes only as relevant in the early-mid game. After that, you can max out al...

Advice on a Demigod Skald build

Hi, As a Demigod Skald (Charms magic),I start out as Str/Int/Dex = 15/16/15 and add 2 points to a chosen Attribute every 3rd level (another 18 points total). My longterm plan is to become an Axe Fighter with high skills in Charms (fight buffs) and Translocations (defense and escape). How should I di...

1) Too much cheese tactic in the game. I'll admit I've used them, but I shouldn't be able to. 1.a) Stair dancing is CHEEEEEEESY. More monsters should follow you up the stairs, at least the ones that see you when you go up/down, more so if they got high intelligence and are chasing you. Conversely, w...
