Re: DCSS Spell Lab

Give me a couple weeks to finish a major work project and I'll see what I can do about updating this for 0.13 and 0.14.

Re: Ice statue surrounded by deep water

Invisibility works, if you have a potion or two and a way to kill the statue reasonably fast. Apportation works to yoink the loot. I've used wands of fireball before to kill them with splash damage.

It hasn't been updated in quite some time. I'd be happy to pass ownership to you if you'd like to take over. I haven't played much DCSS for a while, so I'm not sure what kind of changes have been made.

Re: CIP: DDHe with hunger problems

I am thinking your invocations is too high, but I could be completely wrong. I was thinking perhaps the problem was that it wasn't high enough! :P My thoughts are that if it is higher, I can pacify more creatures with Lesser Healing and heal myself better, thus losing less piety and satiation. But ...

YAVP: OpIE of Elyvilon

Only a 3-rune game, but I'm still pretty pleased, especially since I never found a book with Ice Storm in it, so I was relying on Throw Frost and Refrigeration for most of the game. The only mutations I ever got were intrinsic clarity and +2 Dex on D:3, and I kept them through the whole game. V:8 wi...

Slime can be the easiest if you are patient. Step carefully around the walls to avoid gear corrosion. dive straight to the bottom as fast as possible. Walk a big circle around the royal chamber and clear all the stray jellies. Once you have room to work, pull the Royal jelly but DO NOT berserk and ...

Re: DCSS Missile Lab

One thing I was surprised by was that flame/frost weapons and ammo aren't affected by elemental resistances for whatever reason, so they're just a flat 30% increase in damage. I don't know where you got this from, because it's extremely wrong. Flame/frost ammo is 100% elemental damage, which means ...

Re: DCSS Missile Lab

Excellent job! It seems vorpal longbows/crossbows + flame/frost ammo is the way to go. BTW I think there is a bug in the delay calculations. If you set weapon to crossbow, ammo to bolt and shield to None, then delay is set to zero. Thanks for the bug report --- the problem should be fixed now. One ...

So I built the spell lab when I was trying to win with a DEWz, and now I'm trying to win with a HuPr using ranged weapons, so I built a new tool to figure out what ranged weapon will work the best: a Missile Lab, available as a google doc. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhvL_CFCw7ajdGt...

FYI, the Spell Lab was designed to answer exactly these sorts of questions: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1803

It's built around 0.8, but to the best of my knowledge, spell success calculations haven't changed since.

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

I'm not seeing any enchantment on either the sabre or the quarterstaff, however, after using those scrolls. Shouldn't there be some change in the description>, such as +2 from +1? The description only tells you the base damage, which doesn't change. If you saw a green glow, they got enchanted, and ...

There is no way that curses in general (or the Curse Foo scrolls in particular) will be removed, now that Ashenzari is in. It is true that curses become a minor nuisance unless you have a peculiar game (almost no Remove Curse scrolls, for example). It may be possible to make matters more interestin...

And regeneration... I usually don't wear those when I find them, because the increased hunger side-effect scares me :-/ The increased hunger only kicks in when you're actually regenerating HP, and it costs roughly as much hunger to heal back your HP as it would cost normally if you just waited it o...

For armor; they go for the heavier, high ac types. My orcs always go for full plates, even ignoring the randart ring/scale mails I give them. From more source diving: orcs will wear the highest value armor they can, valuing armor as: AC bonus + 1/resistance pip (-1 for vulnerability) + 1 for any ma...

How deep in a stack do followers look for items? Sometimes there are items they should pick up, but they don't, so I move it to a new stack, and they pick them up. From source diving: they'll always look at least two items deep. Each item past that, they've got a 50% chance of giving up. (So 50% of...

First time I got Tornado castable and now I have a question: Does Tornado Damage stack? So is it useful to cast it more than 1 time, when it is still active? Or do I wait until the Tornadoanimation is gone until I recast? No stacking. Recasting it starts the duration again from the beginning. Which...

So I ended up having a remarkably successful run with this character - I managed a full 15 runes and even went through a Ziggurat out of curiosity! It would be nice if there was an indication of which piles you've visited and which you haven't. DEWz - YAVP - 15 runes + zig!

So I started a deep elf wizard, intending to take her to Sif Muna and do the generalist magician thing. Early in the game, I found a very nice +4/+4 dagger of flaming, so I started doing a bit of melee to try and get my fighting skill up for the extra HP. Turns out Sif's altar wasn't in the temple, ...

So after the rousing success of the Weapon Lab, I began putting together a Spell Lab to get some similarly useful information for casters.
