Re: New monster: Oni

I don't think that this monster should come with ogre packs because it could not use its miasma without hitting its minions. This would either mean that the melee ogres would die in an even shorter than normal period of time, or the oni would not be able to use one of its major powers.

Re: New monster: Oni

I think that it would be strange for a monster with the description, "A large, horned creature. It is similar to an ogre in size and shape, and is often thought to be some strange type of ogre, but it is not actually related," to be encountered in a band of ogres.

Re: New monster: Oni

This monster largely serves to add more variety to the existing group of melee monster which cast spells. I think that fighting an oni would be different from fighting a tengu reaver because it would be important to have rN, as it would reduce the damage considerably. Also, death drakes and Gloorx V...

kunquis, while this might not have immediately apparent, while oni are similar to ogres, they are not actually of the same type(the OP did not have the oni description when you said what you did, which probably made it even less apparent).

Still, I appreciate the suggestion.

These are the exact changes I am proposing for Felids, why they should be changed like that, and the exact code I changed. 1. Give Felids -20% HP instead of -40%. This change makes Felids less dependent on kiting. Some may say that it is fine if Felids have to kite, but I have seen examples of the e...

I have added a branch at https://github.com/TomConrad/crawl/tree/felid_reform with reformed felids. I made them speed 10, significantly decreased the frequency of extra life gain, and gave them -20% hp instead of -40%. I will probably put out a branch without extra lives soon.

Re: Felid Reform

The number one reason why Felids need to be changed is the fact that they are so incredibly frail. This means that instead of kiting powerful monsters, like ogres, you have to kite every monster, even if it is just a hobgoblin.

The purpose of making them faster is to make their kiting less tedious, as most of the things you want to kite are already slower than you. Still, I don't care much either way on the speed question. It might be better to make them speed 10 and balance it in other ways.

It is usually possible to eventually escape, as she has to use a turn to cast stasis, and you can get some distance away and escape when she does. Also, the areas that she spawns (Vaults, Elf, Snake, Spider) generally don't have lots of twisty corridors. If you run long enough, there will be a time ...
