Re: RC options for stopping manual exploration

I think if you go the route where you put force_mores on messages, you will want to catch it when you discover some monster when it "opens the door" or "opens the gate," too. Another approach is to use the safe moves listed in safe_move_shift.txt. These allow you to move but onl...

Just to add that as it stands, the mechanic is quite obscure. I have an ongoing summoner game with some runes (so I've done a lot of summoning), and until I saw this thread I didn't realise I wasn't getting full XP for kills; there's nothing in log messages or spell descriptions as far as I see.

A problem with limiting time to play is that it changes playstyle. You have to play as fast as possible in real time to get the maximum points. Since that's not everybody's cup of tea, I think it would be better to instead limit the number of wins that can count for the tournament. Say, only the fi...

I think the difference is one of what people feel ranged weapons "should" be (an unlimited primary weapon, like spells) vs what they actually are (a backup weapon, like wands). Mechanics wise, I feel that bows are identical to wands, except they do less damage and have more ammo. It's not...

I don't think spell hunger is like ranged ammo. Spell hunger is mostly irrelevant given how much food is in the game. Both consume a finite resource which you get more of during the game. But spell hunger has interesting tactical opti...

Yeah, when you get hit for 25% of your HP, it could be:

- Very high for that monster; worth worrying, but no need to press panic buttons
Knowing which is pretty much just experience (or the kind of detailed analysis noone does).
