Re: CIP - VaEn of Kiku

Thanks! I was hoping to get more runes with this character though... Any advice on tackling the hells or pandemonium (I have never even entered pandemonium :P )?

CIP - VaEn of Kiku

I've had a lot of fun with this one so far. Stabbing monsters when they are asleep is very enjoyable. I've just cleared out the Vaults and the Tomb, and am wondering where I should go next. I have very little experience with the branches of the Depths, and am not sure which is most suited for my cha...

Re: YAVP - First victory

I agree with the potential of DCSS (and roguelikes in general) to keep on being interesting in the long term. I can't think of another game that I've picked up on once every 6 months and was so excited to be playing again over and over. Usually, I burn through games pretty fast, and then dump them e...

YAVP - First victory

Hey everyone, After playing DCSS sporadically for a few years now, I finally was able to finish the game. I probably could have gone for a few more runes, but I was too excited about finally having a good chance at getting the Orb of Zot out of the dungeon. Some care was required in Zot:5, but gener...

How appropriate! :D

That's my other YASD ;). Perhaps grouping my YASD's into a single topic is rather confusing...

The ring of the Barnacle is the sickest piece of jewelry I've ever seen though.

Re: YASD - Don't Underestimate...

Any attempt to confuse the knight or warriors would probably confuse me as well, and running around confused with priests smiting me didn't seem like an attractive plan. nope! i wondered why you had so many confusion potions. if you have poison resistance you won't get confused by evaporating a pot...

Congrats! I'm still trying for my first win. Got my first couple of runes just this weekend, but the character succumbed to my first exploit in the hells. Next time I get a character in the endgame I'm just going for the orb, that's for sure. ;)

Re: Transmuter love

Just started playing DGTr transmuters myself, and I fell in love with them. There is something incredibly satisfying about turning corpses into potions, and I'm a mutation addict, so alter self is to me what a beach of cocaine is to Amy Whinehouse. Just encountered Anges at XL 11, which normally wou...

Re: YASD - Don't Underestimate...

An orc knight and 4 orc warriors were waiting and apparently very awake right next to the stairs. My only option was running back down the stairs um, i think another option for you would be to evaporate confusion on those orcs... Well, beside the orc warriors and knight, there were a whole bunch of...

Re: YASD - Don't Underestimate...

Instead of spamming the forum with tons of YASD's, I'll just group my stupid deaths in one. More tidy that way. This character is perhaps still a bit low level to be worthy of a post, but I find his death much more frustrating than the TrBe. Anyways, don't underestimate orc mines either. I was final...

Well, as it turns out, I couldn't handle hells.

I could have looked up the dangers of hells and wisely decided to avoid them, but there is no substitute for experiencing it yourself, right?

YASD - Don't Underestimate...

Hell. It may sound obvious, but I fell for it. Basically, I was having too easy a time. The game lulled me into a false sense of security and BAM: a Fiend that tormented me twice. I killed him all right, after beserking, but when running back to the vesibule Another Fiend appeared when I was slowed ...

Ok, so I was doing some first time sightseeing in one of the hells, Gehenna, just minding my own business and eating some hellhounds (Spi-cy!), when suddenly I find my ass thrown in the abyss. :o I've had some abyss experiences before, with lower level characters, and those didn't really end well. Looks like I'm not the only one who cannot resist the lure of mutation gambling... Maybe we should start a support group? "Hello everyone, my name is Jim and I'm an addict." Little update on my troll: He has cleared Crypt, Elven Halls 7 and now I'm contemplating my first entry in the realm...

Don't read unidentified scrolls as a Hill Orc Priest of Beogh with your army close by. Beogh might forgive you if that scroll of immolation gives you and your buddies a nice tan, your knights won't be quite as forgivable...

Draining - Too much?

I'm currently playing with a TrBe at XL 22 and I can't seem to get him to lvl 23. I've cleared the last level of the vault, which had bumloads of exp, and cleared The elven halls up to level 7. In total I must have gotten at least 200k exp, but because there seem to be so many creatures that can dra...

Yeah I'm not quite familiar with all of the branches yet, was just picking them at random. Main problem was underestimating Nikola though. On a brighter note: I just exacted sweet vengeance on Nikola with my Troll Berserker in the Elven halls. Quite pleasing! :D EDIT: Less pleasing was finding the +...

YASD - Poor ol' Jim the MDFi

This really could have been avoided. I was exploring in the shoals when I encountered this crazy scientist Nikola that could dish out big damage with lightning spells. Instead of realizing I had no chance soon enough, I let him get me to quite low HP. I blinked out of there, but was followed by a pa...

Phew! I'm gonna call it a night. Just had a quite exciting encounter with Wayne, almost got myself killed. Had to use a lot of blinks to get away from his hasted ass, which got me a nasty glow. Along with some other unfortunate mutations my character has endured, my body is now slowly deteriorating....

Thanks for all the advice! Jim's still alive and kicking, having fun blowing up - and consequently eating - Nessos with a wand of disintegration and squashing bees. The hive was kind enough to give me a ring of protection +5, and the mass murder of insects pleased Okawaru into giving me a decent clo...

Help Jim(MDFi) out!

After playing several types of spellcasters, I've been trying to create a succesful Melee character. I decided to go with a MDFi, because the idea of having a big beard appeals to me. After about ten deaths (one with a quite amusing banishment to the abyss by Erolcha, didn't know she was capable of ...
