But that's never been a serious problem for me - generally three boosted wand blasts are going to solve any problems a wand can solve, unless you've pulled the entire level into an open area because uhh... I think it's better to focus on the effects of switching to an HP cost for the majoity of characters for whom both resources are tactical. Hell, for a significant percentage of characters, MP powered wands may as well just be free wand power (Trog followers and heavy armor, as mentioned above).

There are characters for whom MP powered wands is a purely or near-purely beneficial mutation (very heavy armour users, Trog followers), yet it is classed a "bad" mutation. Many others still only get benefits from it as they simply cast a few charms then wand as needed if things go south. ...

Gargoyles like Dith - They are stealthy, bleed smoke often due to bad hp (but yeah, bad hp is bad), and a mimicked Iron Shot is basically amazing. Well, the way I said it originally was basically train slings and also you can throw. Both ways are fine, I guess, as long as you aren't training Slings beyond a reasonable level - train Throwing for stronger emergency range, train Slings if uhh... You need to kill popcorn very efficiently, I guess....

Sure, just train Throwing. But Slings still get a slight boost when you train throwing, since you are then crosstraining slings, making them slightly less bad.

But yea, slings are pretty darn weak, especially later on.

Sif DCall is ridiculous, yeah. Sif's miscast protection also allows you to cast spells that would otherwise be dangerous with impunity. Sif is good. I am a fan of Sif.

Also, Slings crosstrain with throwing, which is significant because throwing is very strong. Bolts have higher base damage than arrows. Crossbows are very accurate as a weapon class. They are also highly damaging. Hand Crossbows are an excellent early game weapon with minimal investment and allow use of a shield. All this with far superior damage to a short bow, nearly as much as a long bow...
