In 0.8+, I'd say that a Mountain Dwarf Berserker is an excellent combination, Heavy Armour+Axe+Shield+Berserk=WIN!

I'm starting to really like MDBe.

Playing the latest trunk, my current favorite is the Mountain Dwarf Fighter (MDFi). Armoured and highly proficient in armour, shields, fighting and axes, he is an excellent melee build.

I've been thinking about playing a Chaos Knight of Makhleb (Blood and Souls for Makhleb!). Which race would work best with it? Mountain Dwarves?

My current favorite character is the Mountain Dwarf Hunter. Heavy armour, an axe and a big crossbow, what's not to like? I usually play him as a ranged/melee hybrid, using my axe to hack at weaker monsters (that are not worth the bolt) or at close-by moderate-strong monsters and the crossbow to snip...

I've switched to 0.80 today. How was Oka changed in it? And is Trog still better for ranged characters as was recommended to me about 0.71 (he was supposed to gift more projectiles than Oka)?

With time, I grow to love Mountain Dwarf Hunters of Trog. My last game, the best so far for me (I got to XL9 and DL8), was with a Mountain Dwarf Hunter of Trog, and it went great for the most part.

I'm mostly playing Mountain Dwarf Fighters (of Okawaru) and Hunters (of Trog), but from time to time I want to play something difference; from past experience (in 0.71), Kobold Assassins (of Trog?) are a lot of fun to play.

Any tips on playing a Kobold Assassin?

It's hidden in %APPDATA%\crawl. APPDATA depends on your windows version. For windows XP it's something like : C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data Thanks! :mrgreen: We really have to move them to "My Documents". This question keeps popping up... Why not put it in the game's...

My most successful character build so far was a Mountain Dwarf Fighter of Okawaru, got to XL8 and DL7.

I love hunters - hitting things from afar is fun!

So far I've played Mountain Dwarf Hunters of Oka, which are quite good, but I wonder if any of the other races (and gods) makes a good hunter as well.

Mountain Dwarf Hunter (killer with the crossbow!)
Mountain Dwarf Chaos Knight of Makhleb (hell of a fighter with a mighty god!)
Kobold Assassin (stealthy, and VERY powerful with backstabbing and poison darts)
Hill Orc Paladin of The Shining One (quite powerful in combat)
