Wait: are we talking about an irony giant or a sarcasm giant?

How about this, instead. With additional levels of resistance: - rF+: You can remove items from the oven with your bare hands but you have trouble getting a fire going using matches or a lighter. - rC+: You don't feel the cold like other people. You wear shorts even in winter. You swim in the sea wi...

I just found four ?acquirement on one level

On D8. Including three in a stack.

FOUR. ON ONE LEVEL.

I just wanted to share that.

Managing teleportitis

I'm in midgame (have one rune). I have teleportitis and haven't found any cure mut potions. I'm in Snake and I can see that this is putting me at high risk of death. The obvious advice is "find a cure mut potion and drink it quick" - does anyone have any supplementary advice about how to s...

Re: Zot and mutations

Thanks for all the comments. I quaffed rMut and got rid of all the mutations except blurred vision, which I decided to take a chance on. Bart's advice on using scrolls of fog was useful so I did that. I picked up some new mutations but nothing too horrible.

Re: Zot and mutations

blurry is pretty bad too, I would quaff it You're right, it's not good. I'm sure I've read comments here before that said "don't worry about going to Zot without rMut it's not going to make any difference so late in the game" but it seems to me there's every chance I'm going to get remuta...

Zot and mutations

I'm playing an XL27 Mf of Ash, melee focused. I've got three runes and have got as far as Zot 5 but I entered it with trepidation because I haven't found any rMut. I've had a couple of encounters with OoF so far and have picked up the following: You tend to lose your temper in combat. Scrolls take y...

Re: YAVP: MfBe of Trog

Thank you. I put on the ring to reduce my risk of getting killed by OoF in Zot 5, since I didn't have any other rF items. I didn't wear it prior to that point. I'm not a great player but I'm not so poor that I would wear 4 slaying for the whole game.

Thanks for your comment, duvessa. I can't decide, though, whether you're commiserating ("damn RNG obviously didn't produce anything useful - bad luck!"), criticising ("you almost certainly got better armor but were just too dumb to use it"), or congratulating ("you won even ...

YAVP: MfBe of Trog

Posting this only because I post all my wins, for the record. This is my sixth: my first with a Merperson, my second with Trog, and my sixth that is heavily melee-focused and with little or no ranged attack. Despite many many attempts I have still to win with a spellcasting character (beyond a coupl...

Which weapon, and Ogre Berserkers in general

I'm playing a L13 OgBe; currently in Lair 4. I have two questions. First, Trog has given me two great-looking weapons. Which is preferable? - the +5 giant spiked club of Uwacwili (weapon) {vamp, rF+ Str+3 SInv} - the +3 giant club "Skullcrusher" {speed, Str+7} Second, using either of these...

Re: YASD: MiFi of TSO (3 runes) killed in Vault 5

I feel your pain. Prior to getting my first win I had some notable nearly-there deaths. I never died on the orb run but certainly died in Zot 5 more than once - tantalisingly close to the Orb. I support damiac's advice to not fiddle around in Vaults 5 when you've already got the Rune (though I admit...

Re: CiP: How do you develop a spellcaster?

Thanks for your advice. One thing I can see about poison magic is that it looks like it gets less useful as the game progresses (because you encounter more enemies with rP). Do I just hope to find spells that do different types of damage in order to take out such opponents?

CiP: How do you develop a spellcaster?

I've only ever had success with melee-focused characters because they're easy (from my perspective): hit things, get stronger weapons, get tougher armour, train weapon, fighting and armour, hit things, repeat. It always seems much more complicated with spellcasters. Which spell to learn? Which skill...

YAVP: GrFi of Ru. Lovely headwear.

I haven't played much recently but saw there was a new god in trunk and wanted to try it out. Won straightaway, perhaps a combination of luck (some useful drops) and a god that suits my playstyle - primarily melee and I tend to be slapdash so a passive ability works well for me. The most serious thi...

vampiric and ranged?

OK, I'm an XL14 DsBe. I am wielding this: +4 eveningstar "Hougheok" {vamp, rF+ rC+} which is quite handy but I also have these: h - the +7 triple crossbow of Impermanence {venom, +Blink Str-1} Z - the +8 storm bow {elec} - also very nice. The problem, of course, is that a vampiric weapon i...
