I guess for me the "looks dangerous" thing just means you have to play carefully around it, because so many monsters get that tag. If I knew the monster can kill me in one hit, I would probably run as soon as I see it.

Yeah that was what I was thinking. The MiCj picking up weapons thing is more a Melee (physical)> magic than Mi>DE. I mean, if book dropped more often we could also argue that a DEFi could drop the weapon he starts with and pick up any book he finds lying around. But I get what you guys mean. I guess...

They seem like a good race if you want to go pure caster, the problem here is that they are a good race for playing in a sub optimal way. And probably not even the best at that! However, while they may not be objectively the best race to win at crawl, they are a good race for playing a blasty caste...

Why are DE considered bad?

From what I've read on the forum it seems that deep elves are seen as a really mediocre race. Why is that? Is it just their bad defenses? Because to me they seem like a pretty good race if you want to go pure caster.

Yeah I was mainly saving the ?EA just in case I found some other armor but now that Ru made me sacrifice charms I guess I'll just go full melee and no magic.

Is the rf- thing that bad? Its not like I run around wielding the arbalest all the time and the penet thing is kinda cool.

Should I unwield a distortion weapon?

So I'm playing a GrBE and trog just gave me a +5 eveningstar of distortion. So far the blinking enemies thing has just been a little annoying but I'm worried it could be dangerous in the future. But, on the other hand, I really don't want to get abbysed. Should I just unwield it?

I've never tried draconian or Hill orc, I'll give those a shot. My main problem so far has been survivability. Most early books focus only on dmge and they don't really give you any means of escape. Thx for the tips! I decided to take a look on a couple of levels of the depths and then probably I'll try elven halls again. I found a golden dragon and now I have his armor haha. It looks pretty good but it really screws with my atk speed. Do I need to pump the amor skill to use it comfortably?

In the end I decided to clear vaults 1-4 and then get the Shoals rune, and I did it! yay for me! While on the Shoals I found an artifact plate armour and thought that I could finally get some good defense, but it turned out to be a -8 armour with +2 str, so that sucked lol.
