Strength on every levelup if you mostly use melee or archery, int on every level up if you mostly use conjurations/summoning/necro/hexes. On lower-strength warrior-mages it can sometimes be better to take strength, I think? Warrior-mages are generally not the best.

Hypothetically speaking, without decay or hunger or OOD spawns, a player might do doomrl-waiting, as in, you camp in a good spot for thousands of game-turns and wait for monsters to move into a favorable position, so that you do not waste resources (as you do not regenerate in doomrl).

a hat is probably more value short-term if you enchant it to +2, I don't think it's likely for you to get a ring that will offer that much value for you in lair unless its ac/ev>+2, slay, or rpois. It's probably close enough that it won't affect whether you die or not all that much.

You know, if you don't have a ton of inventory slots like in DCSS, walking around with 5-6 different weapons isn't such a good idea. Note that people don't really walk around with 5-6 weapon types while playing Gnoll at the moment.

I don't think trying to rank-order backgrounds is that useful. it depends on what race you are, and trying to average over races is an exercise in futility. Plus, most of them are more or less as good as one another, barring a few which are really good (Be, IE, FE) and really bad (CK, AM, VM).

I don't think so, but it does require a lot more supplies to clear if you don't use spells much. To be fair, Tomb was explicitly redesigned to get rid of stairdancing which was the main way melee characters cleared Tomb, wasn't it? You could always just get statue form for Tomb and cast it in robes ...

Surprised you can shave that many turns without spamming teleport. Maybe it's not actually that turn-efficient... Robe of vines is probably the key to the sub-20k turn counts.

0 skill melee is underrated if you have a good weapon enchant. One game I played I was killing things with glaive of the guard as a Fo with 0 skill in robes reasonably well.

to be fair VS^Chei and Tr^Chei are sort of cheating because of the huge boost to auxes and huge str with old statue form, respectively... with other species, I think it is fairly easy, but not as overpowering as VS^Chei or Tr^Chei. The trick is of course surviving to the point where you can cast it....

i would suggest just using 0-skill melee with a weapon that has a high enchantment and low delay, preferably elec brand. even an artefact dagger with good enchant is fine for cleaning up very weak enemies - venom is especially good early on.

do axes + shields. it's fine to start using a large shield with only 16-18 skill or so, the weapon delay penalty will be about 0.05. opbe is kind of frustrating to play because you can't use tmuts which I think usually octopodes want to do.
