Re: CiP - DeCj: Suggestions for how to proceed?

Thanks very much for the tips to all of you! I don't want to do a full post, since I should really be asleep right now, but the short of it is, I'm on Dungeon floor 15, thinking I should have been checking out Swamp and Spider before even setting foot in here (no truly scary moments yet, but I think...

CiP - DeCj: Suggestions for how to proceed?

Hello everyone! I've come back to this game after two years of hiatus, and I've started a run with a DeCJ which has so far been much smoother than I anticipated. For a bit of context, back when I played this game (I think may have been somewhere between versions .14 and .16), I ended up getting two ...

Put further stat ups into dexterity, at level 24 and 27. And put on a better ring than see invisible. You shouldn't have trained axes to 27 (should have stopped at 26), but otherwise, looking good. Yeah, I was planning on putting stat ups into dexterity (I've basically been told to stat up int if p...

CiP into YAVP - MiBe - Going well so far!

So, after getting my first win as a Naga Monk of Chei (posted on this forum earlier), I figured I ought to actually get a win with a MiBe since I spent so much time trying to earn a win with them. I think the game is growing tired of seeing me play those, as I got some pretty lucky loot this time ar...

Re: YAVP - NaMo of Chei - Was not expecting to win this!!!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I feel like I should actually try and score a win with a Minotaur Berserker and a Spriggann Assassin/Enchanter (my two most successful combinations until yesterday) now that I've seen the game through and have a decent general idea of the game's structure (for a 3...

Re: YAVP - NaMo of Chei - Was not expecting to win this!!!

I DID IT! MY FIRST VICTORY! YESSSSSSSSSS I'm rather amused that my first victory was with what is generally considered a challenge combination. But mostly I'm super excited that I finally achieved a victory in Crawl. And tired, because I kept myself up way too late to finish this (playing with fire,...

Re: CiP - NaMo of Chei - Was not expecting to get this far..

Alright, I've cleared all of The Depths. Aside from one really close call when I ran into a group that had two Ancient Liches, a Gold Dragon and a whole bunch of other stuff, I didn't really have too many scary moments, though the monster set is pretty ridiculous down there. I guess all that's left ...

Welp, cleared Swamp 5 and then went through the first two levels of Elf. Found a book of Changes, which gives me access to Statue Form. I've heard a lot of good things about Statue Form for Unarmed Combat (and the Wiki seems to agree)... do people suggest I learn it? I'd probably have to train nothi...

Re: CiP - NaMo of Chei - Was not expecting to get this far..

Cleared Vaults all the way up to V4. V2 had a nice combination of Boris, Sojobo and Saint Roka, but I managed to stay alive (and I don't think Boris ever woke up). Nothing especially noteworthy, Vaults is pretty exciting overall, although it becomes a lot more manageable when you figure out how to d...

Re: CiP - NaMo of Chei - Was not expecting to get this far..

Thanks very much for the info! I'll keep this in mind when I get back to the game. Thanks also for pointing out the fire vulnerability, I had put on the ice ring to deal with ice attacks in the Swamp (I think?) and kept it because I was worried about Magic Resist, but that's partly because I'm never...

YAVP - NaMo of Chei - Was not expecting to win this!!!

So, while I haven't played this game seriously for a few weeks (really busy, a couple of fairly advanced MiBe/SpAs runs are lying around forgotten since I haven't had the concentration to play them recently), I've been messing around with different/random starts in order to familiarize with differen...

Re: Gods Fun Survey

I rated Nem a '2' for basically just that reason. Nem is way better now than he used to be (I refused to play him back in the days when deck gifts were tied to which items you sacrificed), but still requires way too much item shuffling to be fun. I also dislike that I have to change my rcfile optio...

Re: Gods Fun Survey

Personally I'm most surprised with finding Nemelex at "Yawn" level. I'm guessing it's because of the inventory management, similarly to the way that Beogh is so low because of the Allies management? Personally those two Gods are the ones I had the most fun with (especially Nemelex). I gues...

I GOT MY FIRST RUNE EVER WOOOO! Okay, had to celebrate :D Anyhow, thanks for the replies! Also I lost a few to a couple of unexpected Fire ...

Re: CiP - MiBe (again :P) - thoughts and suggestions welcome

Why skip Lair 8? (Orc 4 after Lair 7 in particular is pretty strange. What would lead you to think Lair 8 is more dangerous than Orc 4?) 1) Spellbinder is way too fun, and you won't find it this often. I would go for it. 2a) Bows can't be distortion, so assuming your supply of remove curse > 0 you ...

CiP - MiBe (again :P) - thoughts and suggestions welcome!

Hello everyone! I'm back with another MiBe, and this time I'm feeling really lucky up until now. I just finished clearing out Orc4 after Lair7 and I've never had an easier time before; it helps that the main Orc4 threat here was a bunch of Sorcerers and that I'm wielding an Anti-Magic Demon Whip, bu...

Re: YASD (formely CiP) - HOGl of Beogh - Suggestions welcome

That's a little weird, Firestarter (the unrand great mace that inner flames opponents) doesn't have SInv. You know, I just went and checked my morgue file, and you're right; the mace doesn't have Sinv. And yet, for some reason I was certain it did when I equipped it (I didn't have any other SInv eq...

Re: -CiP- YASD - HOGl of Beogh - Suggestions welcome!

Well that was silly. And very sad. I cleared out Lair until floor 7 very easily. Ran into two Hydras, which died to wands + smiting as I had planned. Then continued until D14. Things were awesome: My best Orc Knight Boghold was now a Warlord and kicking as much ass as ever, two wizards had become sor...

Re: CiP - HOGl of Beogh - Suggestions welcome!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, searching for enchanted armour and axes only gives a couple of glowing hand axes (one of which was -2 -2 cursed and cost me my last remove-curse scroll) and a couple of glowing/embroidered robes. Like I said, pretty terrible loot so far XD I'm also out of identify scrolls...

YASD (formely CiP) - HOGl of Beogh - Suggestions welcome!

I'm back with yet another character! Took me a few tries to get a HO melee character off the ground (they're less sturdy than MiBe so I kept underestimating threats) but this guy is doing really well for now I think. I went through Orc before Lair since I had enough piety to convert almost every Orc...

Yes, having more Fighting is good when you have ok offense and reached point where training more Armour/Dodging is not useful. Why were you training Transmutations? Oh, I had found a book of earth magic and was trying to train Passwall (and possibly Petrify/LRD later) as an escape option. Maybe tha...

YASD - SpAs of Nemelex in Orc 2

This is what happens when I'm doing well. I start thinking that I'm invincible and then die stupidly to a bunch of Orcs. Such a waste, too, there was absolutely no reason other than carelessness for me to die there. Anyway, first time playing this combination (excluding one very very early playthrou...

When in doubt, remember you CAN'T bum rush and tank the unique you've never seen before. Even if you can, you probably can't. I *really* need to learn this lesson. Also when my best character died fairly recently I learned that if the game is telling you that monster is drowning you, that might act...

I've never gotten as far as getting a rune, but I tend to have similar problems, moving around really fast due to impatience (as soon as I realize my character has gotten strong-ish) and getting into terrible situations without noticing until it's too late.
