hey all, simple question, i hope, but please explain like i'm 5. i have read and apparently failed to understand the relevant documentation. i have carpal tunnel and can no longer use the 'tab'/autofight function. playing a melee character, this is fine, i can use directional keys to 'bump into' mon...

Re: CIP: Trying to win with a Human Fighter

Intelligence is legit. I would keep doing that. Doesn't take much into charms to get regen, spectral weapon, rMissiles... My only input is that for where you are, that much skill into slings will probably carry you for a ways. Might just train dodging for awhile. Personally, I would use that trident...

impressions of gameplay with ogre of Ru; Sacrificing Nimbleness was a mistake, taking ogres' normal lack of defense and making it just hilariously bad. was better after I found GDA in zot, and Wyrmbane plus shield helped. I know the lettered move keys, thanks. They're not a good option for me.

Sounds like no one else is experiencing this. Well damn. I guess I'll try to dive into custom key mapping and see if I can't fix it myself. >.<

Thanks for the advice, all. :)

Numeric move keys nonfunctional when monster in sight

Hi! So I'm without WiFi after a move, and downloaded tiles to play offline. I noticed that I can't move using numeric keys when a monster is in sight. I couldn't find, or didn't understand, the command to change this in init.txt. anyone know what command I need to add to stop getting "A GIANT G...

Dazzling spray is how I handle mobs with an enchanter. Adjust the beam to hit as many as possible, and then even if it takes 2 casts to get them all blinded, then they're down some hp and killing them is that much faster. Great success rate (for me) vs blink frogs, yaks, green rats. At high power st...

Throw icicle at high power is useful all through the early branches. gets a little underpowered in depths/vaults, but I never felt like I should unlearn it. If you find rElec go for chain lightning. It's a massively effective melee range spell; at high power I two-shotted Sojobo. With your skill in ...

I'm not sure I'd change overall strategy for that triple crossbow. Venom is great up to a point but it loses some utility the further in you get. Also it almost seems like apples and oranges. I love melee ogres. In my very limited experience, the best way I know to keep them alive is to be really, really cautious with the way I engage; even more than usual until I get good dragon armor and a lot of armor skill, I pull mobs one by one into a corridor. Branded or randart bardiche is a great weapon, and you could have it up to speed a lot faster than most other weapon types, given mf aptitude. On the contrary, I think doing vaults is a great idea. Lots of dudes in there with heavy armor and big axes, so you might get decent gear. Also dragons, if you want to go that route for armor. As for strategy - use autoexplore until you notice a dude, throw something at the dude, draw the dude into a hallway preferably by himself, soften him up with rocks/javelins/tomahawks until he gets to you, pound dude into mush, eat the mush, rinse and repeat. Really basic stuff, but as a pretty crappy player I found the following synergies useful: Conjure flame + inner flame - 1)block the doorway. 2)inner flame the weakest member of the mob. 3)poke inner-flamed dude with something. 4)blow up just about anything standing next to said dude. I have seen other 'cip' posts about gargoyles here with insane ACs by the end game. I tend to try to hedge my bets; if I can't have EV with my AC, I'd rather shields..

Maybe I should drop shields altogether and train up EV? Not exactly a gargoyl'e's forte, but yeah, Ash boosts can be big. Good idea?
