The LoS changes have had no effect on my current game - I'm not sure I would have noticed if it wasn't explicitly pointed out.

Health and essence definitely killed me.

I'm pretty sure sacrafice stealth killed me when a lich (which, to be fair, I didn't notice) sent me to abyss:4.

I've never tried nimbleness because most of my random characters tend to want light armor, which means that dodging is fairly necassary.

Yeah, that's true. I've been playing random characters so I quite often need those spell schools, but many strong characters can get through the game without 'em.

Still, it's a long, long road to apocalypse-level piety only sacraficing spell school and minor mutations and courage.

Necromancer's a good starter. You have to spend a lot of time up close but allies + draining give you tools to survive, even with whatever crappy weapon you find and 0 starting skill.

I like skalds a lot, too - I think they're stronger than a straight-up fighter.

I really like Dith on felids. Dith, at high piety will basically give you scroll of fog as a free action when hit at ranged* and that is my single favorite defense for low hp/low AC characters. (And felids are the lowest of the low for both.)

* Close combat too, but that matters much less.

Normally I don't worry about it. Gozag I train a lot more spellcasting and put a greater priority on intelligence. Primary-spellcaster of Gozag is annoying, so I tend not to play them.
