Re: Display skill to minimize delay

I would love to have a manual 10.0-aut clock in tiles mode that had one hand on current time and another hand on the time when you took your last action, with the area between the hands shaded in to show the 'delay'. For example, this would show if you did an action that took 2.7 auts: i am pleased...

Re: Dunk Of The Month - February 2015

http://i.imgur.com/Upe8NIl.png A dunk after my own heart. Did this happen today? Because if so then we'll have to set up a Dunk Council to decide these or my bias will blind me to anything else. The only reason why gammafunk was mentioned for runner up was because I wanted him to continue to experi...

Dunk Of The Month - February 2015

As the final moments of February pass by, we gather here to commemorate the most skillful and potent dunks performed this month by Crawl's denizens. A dunk is more than an insult, it is a maneuver. Cool and collected, the dunkmeister transcends his role as spectator and merges with Tileschat to deli...

Re: Major Background Trimming

If you can't remove features, then adding a new feature permanently increases the total number of features. Why is this a problem? Because players don't have the infinite time required to learn about infinite features. Every time a feature is added the game gets inherently worse because it takes mo...

Re: feels like alot of indie games are now called roguelikes

So is Dungeons of Dredmor a roguelike or not, help me out here Dungeons of Dredmor is most certainly a roguelike. Turn based, grid based, procedurally generated floors, permadeath, portal vaults, RPG stats & levels, randomized item drops, equipment with rolled statistics + non-random equipment,...

Re: feels like alot of indie games are now called roguelikes

I argued with the Catacomb Kids developers about marketing their game as a roguelike. It's just a dungeon-themed action platformer, therefore lacking the two most defining attributes of roguelikes: turn-basedness & item destruction. I'm not so sure about that second one, but gammafunk insists.

Re: One page worth of advice to give... What would it be?

I like this thread. I think that until you embrace the community, encounter their many experienced practices and the clouds of ideas we float between each other, Crawl will remain an unsolvable enigma for you. Over 6 years ago I played offline and had only seen Lair once. When I rediscovered crawl b...

Re: Smith/fire god

My run ended in an explosion of Hellfire, fireballs, and magma eruption. It took like 15 space bar hits to cycle through, but it was glorious. There was flaming death leaping across the screen as I took down many demons with my final fiery breath.

Re: Smith/fire god

I've been playing a Formicid Monk on the experimental branch all day today so I figured I'd share my thoughts on this god. I'm currently around XL22 and clearing back and forth between the Depths and Vaults so I've had a lot of time to become familiar with the god. First I have to say that I've neve...
