It seems that you made it out with your SpBe, but for other ones that might try this, I suggest an abusive use of throwing and blowgun. Trog should gift nice needles (confuse and para). It allows you to destroy extended and laugh at every unique so easily... That's not an approach I had thought of....

I can certainly see that poisoning a monster and running is good I.e. When using a blowgun on an ogre or something. But when venom is on a melee weapon, this will only work if you run faster than the monster, surely. And have a safe place to run to
