Being faster than a monster is a very powerful ability. So if you would make e.g. elves faster, you should balance them by making them weaker in some other sense.

Crawl used to have item weights and burden levels in the past. They were removed in DCSS 0.15, and I don't think they're coming back.

I agree. Many non-DCSS backgrounds (and species) in Bloat could easily be incorporated in DCSS imo, but this is certainly not one of them.

I don't think you should start to train for a melee weapon now. You have a lot of spell levels left: I'd learn at least Fulminant Prism, Swiftness and Apportation right away. Airstrike is also tempting as you have a staff of air.

Yes, it seems that as gargoyles are unliving creatures, they can't cast sublimation of blood.

For the future, I would recommend that you read-ID scrolls. At least the stacks. In this case, you could have had 5 more points of AC and a scroll of fog available.

Power of Zot is invoked against me... by who? None of this monsters on screen have such power.

IIRC it was the message given when you enter a level where teleport control does not work. And carrying the Orb made all levels prohibit teleport control.

Interesting. I use ranged weapons in most my games and there seems to be plenty of ammo in the game.
