I think I've pressed TAB about a dozen times in >5 years of playing, so I hadn't thought of that as another culprit for YASD's. HOW?! If the probability of generating a flame cloud on a particular spot was tied to spellpower, the balance of the spell could be adjusted simply by that probability. It could be close to nonexistent at low spellpower.

Lesson learned: don't fight merged slime creatures. Try to pick slime creatures up one by one. If they merge, get out of their LOS. This makes them unmerge.

I agree that bolt of magma should probably go, if there's no reason for anyone to actually use it.

What about if bolt of magma had a chance of generating flame clouds in it's path? The chance should obviously scale with spellpower.

It is very useful, because many dangerous monsters don't see invisible. The whole of Shoals:5, for example, or draconians in Zot, giants, many dragons etc. etc.

Congratulations, nice rune set for the first victory!

I would say both of your Abyss trips were quite short, though. Especially, you got the rune extremely fast. In my last game it took me 1243 turns in the Abyss to get the rune, and that felt like a breeze compared to some other times...

I believe that that message means that the monster stepped on a teleport trap somewhere else and got teleported to your LOS.
