A lot of transmutations can wear hats but not helmets. But it is good to note that hats don't provide any extra AC. So unless it is enchanted in someway they are kinda pointless.

Pros: Javelins are awesome. They do far more damage per hit then the other ranged attacks. Steel javelins are monstrous.

Cons: Javelins are awesome, even if you don't train throwing at all. So I tend not to train throwing anyway.

Fireball may do less damage then bolt of fire but it never misses. I have always found it better against those pesky high EV creatures. Delayed Fireball makes it even better.

Also I have found SpFE get along with the new sticky flame quite nicely.

For snake 5 you could use your amulet of stasis to prevent being teleported square into the middle of the naga vault. If you use it to cancel the teleport it will glow you though. I second only fighting only one greater naga at a time. Two of these will slice through your balrugs like butter.

SpTm are interesting too. That +3 to transmutations goes to waste in a lot of spriggan builds. The early game can be challenging as you have to get over the food-cost hump of the tranformations. However, once you can cast blade hands at an acceptable hunger level they become extremely powerful.

SpNe worked very well for me. They have a -1 skill in necromancy which causes no problems at all (same as kobolds). From a player who still sometimes just quaffs mutation potions for the heck of it. And yes I have ruined (I mean made awesome) a fair share of characters this way. I remember that your chances of getting a good mutation are better then your chances of getting a bad mutation from potions of mutation....
